Now Playing: GS News Update: Destiny Revamps Prison of Elders in April

"The Taken King is dead. Yet still his armies yet claw at our worlds. Even as you led the assault on the Dreadnaught, a powerful would-be Taken Prince fled for the safety of the shadows. Hunt him down before he grows too powerful

The original story is below.

Today during a Destiny livestream event, Bungie revealed the first details for the game's upcoming April update. As Bungie announced last week, it comes out on April 12 across all platforms for people who own The Taken King.

We learned during the stream that the April update will increase Destiny's Light Level cap to 335, while it also introduces new bounties, quest lines, missions, and a new Strike. The name of the Strike boss is Malak, and you can see this beast below.

Additionally, the Prison of Elders co-op activity is getting boosted to level 41, providing players a new challenge. There will be a new activity titled Challenge of the Elders, which comes with a score card that resets on a weekly basis. Players who reach a score of 30,000 during the week will earn weapons, while reaching a cumulative score of 90,000 will pay out high-end armor.

The original version of Prison of Elders will remain available for players more interested in that.

Bungie also said, in an effort to keep players coming back, it will offer four months of new challenges, introducing 16 in total before things are said and done.

Additionally, the Winter's Run Strike will be increased to Taken-level difficulty for the Heroic Strike playlist.

The new quest is called At the Gates, though we don't know much yet about what it will entail. (We can only hope Bungie teams up with the band At the Gates for some kind of special crossover) Bungie also said the character Petra from the House of Wolves expansion will have a new quest to offer to PlayStation players exclusively. No further details about it were shared. Its existence is not surprising, given that Destiny publisher Activision has a co-marketing deal with Sony that has spawned other PlayStation-exclusive content in the past.

Also during the stream, Bungie confirmed that April's update will come with further tweaks to the game's Crucible multiplayer mode, as well as unspecified changes to the game's overall sandbox elements. Additionally, the update will deliver a series of "quality of life" improvements to make the game more enjoyable overall.

Keep checking back with GameSpot for more on Destiny's April update. Next week, Bungie will hold another Destiny livestream for the update that will cover some of its gear and other rewards. The week after that, Bungie will hold yet another livestream during which it will talk about the Crucible and sandbox updates.

Looking further out, a "large" Destiny expansion is coming this fall, while a full-on sequel will debut in 2017.
