Destiny: Rise of Iron Trailer Shows Off Everything New

Private matches, new maps, a new mode, the next raid, and a lot more shown off in trailer.

Today during a livestream event from Gamescom, Bungie released a new "ViDoc" for Destiny's upcoming Rise of Iron expansion. This video, titled "Forged in Fire," shows off basically everything featured in the update, including new story content, the next raid, additional Crucible maps, and more.

While much of the content in the video was announced previously, this is the best, most in-depth and extensive look at Rise of Iron content that's been released so far. Take a look.

Among the most high-profile new additions to Destiny with Rise of Iron is private match functionality for the Crucible. Players can set up their own matches and are able to customize things like match duration, time of day, and score limit. Players can also enable or disable their Light level for private matches.

Another standout from the trailer is the new raid, Wrath of the Machine, which sees players making their way through claustrophobic confines of The Wall before reaching the open air on top. This raid goes live on September 23, which is three days after the expansion itself arrives. The video also shines a light on the new Strike, The Wretched Eye.

Additionally, Rise of Iron includes the new Supremacy mode for Crucible. As we learned earlier today, this follows the formula of Call of Duty's Kill Confirmed mode. Private matches are coming to all Destiny players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but Supremacy is only available for people who own Rise of Iron.

Rise of Iron launches on September 20 for PS4 and Xbox One. It's Destiny's fourth expansion, following The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King. All of those, as well as the base game, were released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but Rise of Iron won't be.

Players who began on last-gen systems but now have a current-gen machine can upgrade to the newly announced Destiny: The Collection for $40, but only for a limited time. The Collection comes with the base game and all Destiny content, including Rise of Iron, as well as a character boost.

I hope we get more inventory on our characters. I'm so tired of being choked for space.

This DLC is not worth 40 bucks. Bungie are such big crooks.

@allever: $30 actually. I think it is worth it as I have already preordered it. If you play alone though, I can see how it wouldn't be.

And calling them crooks just shows how unattached you are with reality.

The hype is real in this trailer, but it was in ALL their trailers. I'll give it a couple weeks after release to see how good it actually is. I've been burned too much by this game to give anymore money prematurely.

@Kiyosuyo: For sure. I really like Destiny, but if I'd set my expectations based on their promotional material, I'd be expecting ambrosia from the gods on release. Bungie has got their marketing figured out.

This looks promising. Hopefully the raid will actually be a challenge.

@fig56: Less jumping in the boss fights would be nice.

@CallMeDuraSouka: You really should try a raid. The first time through, with a group of decent folks, they're ... epic. With a group of not so decent folks, they're just a slog though.

@CallMeDuraSouka: It is. Especially the first time. Fortunately, you get checkpoints after the bosses, and they last until the weekly reset. Ideally you'll get it done in one pass, but that really is an all afternoon kind of proposition.

Jesus christ bungie is good at hyping up things which turn out to be mediocre experiences. Hopefully destiny 2 is better but not wasting money on another dlc
