Today's major Destiny update added microtransactions to the game for the very first time. We've now visited the in-game Eververse Trading Company store and can confirm pricing details for the brand Silver currency and the various emotes you can buy.

No Caption Provided

Everyone gets 400 Silver to start, which is enough to buy two standard emotes, as they sell for 200 Silver each. "Legendary" emotes, of which there are two ("the Carlton" from Fresh Prince is one of them), cost 500 Silver each. This emote is known as the "Enthusiastic" dance. Check it out in the gallery above.

You can buy additional bundles of Silver at the following price points.

  • 500 -- $5
  • 1,100 --$10
  • 2,300 --$20

If you want to buy all 18 of Destiny's new emotes, it would cost you 4,200 Silver, or about $38. Check back soon for a detailed video overview of these emotes and the Eververse Trading Company.

Emotes are only cosmetic and do not affect gameplay. Bungie has not yet said if it plans to introduce items other than emotes through the Eververse Trading Company.

Whatever the case, one analyst believes Destiny's microtransactions could be big business, capable of generating "hundreds of millions" per year.

I honestly dont know why people buy stupid shit like this but you know theres some guy out there whos already bought them all and couldnt be happier. It does nothing for you other then making your character dance i also dont understand the people who spent money on skins for League of Legends its the samr shit it does nothing but make you look different and change what some of your abilities look like, but you know somewhere the comment section theres some guy saying this is dumb but has probably done this for another stupid game.

They have literally got people to pay to make their characters dance. Next stop; paying to have your character take a shit in game.

It just feels like a joke. It has to be something they all laugh about around the water cooler.

I don't know how these people sleep at night, they have charged 125 pounds sterling for you to have the privilege of playing one game for the last 13 months and they still want you to pay for cosmetic additions on top of that. It is akin to a confidence trickster predating on the vulnerable.

Activision, sort your act out.

I've made $76,000 so far this year working online and I'm a full time student. Im using an online business opportunity I heard about and I've made such great money. It's really user friendly and I'm just so happy that I found out about it.

lets face it, hates are just using this as a pivot to over exaggerate the horrors of this game by crying like its the end of the world, most destiny player probably dont give a cr@p as it has nothing to do with game-play. most people will probably buy one or 2 MAX and considering bungies giving away the currency they will probably be for free anyway. there just no reason to get railed up over something as stupid as a few dance moves, anyone who tries to make anything more of this is simply pathetic and should grow up.

There's a difference between microtransactions affecting gameplay and purely cosmetic microtransactions. As long as developers don't stray into gameplay-changing territory, there's nothing to worry about. As soon as that happens, I'll start freaking out like everyone else is already.

At the moment activision n bungie are testing the waters. They want to know how many dumb people are out there willing to buy an item that has no advantage in game, if they can get crazy numbers of dumb players buying these items, they will move onto different types of items ie weapons armor even skills.

They have already earnt millions by full retail sales of the first game i myself ended up paying 90 pound for this game and expansion pass and i stop playing when i hit brick wall, my mate then brought taken king for 50-60 quid and no doubt that generated more millions.

Again i must say there needs to be laws put in place to stop this from happening it is an industry that is un-watched, publishers and developers go un-checked so if they do wrong they get no come backs. The customer needs more protection, i have been saying this for last few years as publishers are rushing games, developers are bringing broken n unfinished games out and both pubs n devs are making to many mistakes that leave them without any fines or sanctions at all, but its all at the cost of the customers pocket while they continue to earn millions. And now both pubs n devs are pushing the waters once more and there are a few games on the way out at full retail but also adding these micro transactions. Eventually they will break those waters because people fall into all of this because they feel they have to have a different thing in game to those who wont bend, cant spend or for what ever reason dont end up buying these micros, it is the customers fault as much as publishers n developers for even buying into all of this in the first place. Make no business for them and they would have no choice but to revert there micros to free as they should be if theyre selling a game for full retail anyway.

If the game was a free2play or sub based and had micros as this is what they should be on and i can understand as a developer needs to generate funds then. I myself have supported devs in this case ie never winter, dc universe and i am willing to support the f2p models. A full retail price game does not deserve a micro market and customers who bend to this you just make things worse for the rest of the customers. Your telling pubs n devs to go rite ahead n milk us for everying we have all because you want a silly emote to do someat different to a certain percentage of the population who wont have it, its pathetic that youd even buy into it and i wonder if your brains are working at all. When they do move onto to holding those weapons and armors for sale those of you in these threads who are supporting these moves by them, you will eventually be the ones complaining to when they make that jump to items that have an effect in game, but be warned those of us who are complaining now told you that this would happen eventually.

I don't see a problem with game developers or publishers pushing this stuff. Why not? AAA games especially MMO type online games cost an incredible amount of money to produce and keep periodic updates and game content coming. Online gamers also absolutely love being the first kids on the block to get something unique or special in game and stand around showing it off. Pets, mounts, unique player skins, emotes, etc are all commonly used by developers to sell extra content in online games and an incredible amount of gamers pay, many others whinge demanding that they get in for nothing.

The concept isn't going away anytime soon, if anything it will continue to grow. Personally I much prefer in game rewards that are earned by gameplay but I can completely understand why micro transactions exist. They exist because there is a market for them and at the end of the day, game development is a business.

Wait wait wait... I'm sorry. It's late, and my reading comprehension is absolute shit right now, but did I read that it costs five dollars for the Carlton dance and 38 dollars for all emotes? Please, please tell me that I didn't read that right, that I really am too tired to be on the internet...

I dnt see it as a problem if people want to spend theur own money on this. But why cant we use our own stuff in game like materials and such to exchange for silver? For gamers that grind so much and have extra of everything.

Not sure where people are getting that you HAVE to pay $38.00 or that you HAVE to buy any of these emotes at all. They're purely cosmetic and you're open to paying a few dollars for the Carlton or another emote.

Oh course the only one I would want is 500 and you apparently can't simply buy 100 silver meaning I won't be getting it as no way I'm dropping 5 bucks on that. Nice job Bungie. Twats.

@OmegaGear: I remember when it got a packet of giant snakes :). We found $5 under a park bench and pigged out at the local shop on snake lollies on the way to school.

In relative terms i would take the packet of lollies over this rubbish any day.

Eff you Activision and Bungie. I truly wish you nothing but the worst. This game may very well be looked back on as the tipping point if others adopt this level of shameless greed.
