Destiny Dev Getting Help From Tony Hawk, Skylanders Studio
Vicarious Visions is working with Bungie and High Moon on new Destiny content.
Bungie is recruiting the help of Activision's Tony Hawk and Skylanders studio Vicarious Visions to work on the Destiny franchise, it was announced today.
"Vicarious Visions is excited to announce that we are partnering with Bungie to further expand the award-winning Destiny universe," Vicarious Visions said in a statement,
This is no surprise, as a report from September revealed that Vicarious Visions and another Activision-owned studio, High Moon, would be contributing to the Destiny franchise. Specifically, the outside studios are rumored to be working on Destiny 2, which is reportedly coming to PC in addition to consoles. In May, Bungie officially announced that High Moon is working on Destiny.
Earlier this year, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg teased that Bungie found a way to deliver more Destiny 2 content, faster. Bringing in two new studios could be the solution he referenced.
"In the past, I've mentioned that the incredible demand for Destiny content has somewhat outpaced our ability to deliver upon that demand," Hirshberg said during an earnings call. "Going forward, along with our partners at Bungie, we've put together what we believe is a very smart approach that will allow us to deliver that steady stream of great content to keep our players engaged and keep the universe alive and growing in the wake of that sequel."
Destiny 2 has not been formally announced, but Activision management said during an earnings call that it will come out in 2017.
In addition to Destiny, Vicarious Visions is working on Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy for PlayStation 4. The studio also made Skylanders Super Chargers and Swap Force. Whether or not this news affects the studio's Skylanders development remains to be seen.
