Now Playing: E3 2017: Destiny 2 - PS4 Exclusive Content Trailer

Much like the first game, Destiny 2 will offer exclusive content to PlayStation players. That means everyone on systems other than PS4--which now includes not just Xbox One, but also PC--will have to wait to get their hands on an additional Strike and multiplayer map, among other things. While that remains unfortunate for players on those other platforms, we do now have a better idea of when to expect that content to debut.

Destiny 2 game director Luke Smith shared the news on Twitter, stating, "Destiny 2's PlayStation-exclusive content will arrive on Xbox One and PC in 2018." He unfortunately didn't get more specific than that, but it does still provide us with new information. When PS4-exclusive content was first announced, Activision said it would remain exclusive "until at least Fall 2018," which left the door open for it to remain unavailable on Xbox One and PC for even longer than a year. Combining that with what Smith said, you can expect the content to be out between September and December 2018.

We learned this week exactly what PS4 players will get their hands on first. The biggest piece of content is the Lake of Shadows Strike, but there's also a Crucible map called Retribution, an Exotic sniper rifle called Borealis, armor, and a ship. You can get a glimpse of all this in the trailer above.

E3 has also brought other Destiny 2 news, including word that the PS4 and Xbox One versions will launch a bit earlier than expected. Meanwhile, the PC version won't be out until October, almost two months later. Additionally, Guided Games won't allow you to take part in Heroic activities, and we now know when the beta begins on consoles.

@lonesamurai1: I'm pretty sure the Xbox one x version is the same as the Pros version. But I agree PC players won't care... Actually Xbox players in general probably don't care if the first game had any indication.

Nothing special like the exclusive D1 gear/content but Xbox and PC will eventually see this content! What I'm more concerned about is Bungie are clearly releasing the same game with the same re-skinned gear and exclusive deal crap that is toxic for the community!

Activision mixed with Sony powering Bungie that is the most toxic anti consumer mix right there! Activision are the most anti consumer corporation that everyone knows but still supports them! They sell you a game then the cost of dlc for the price of a game that should have been in the game to begin with! Destiny 1 is the most perfect example that it's never changed and never will!

Is Bungie dumbing down Destiny by releasing it on PC? To be honest I'm not sure its the best decision they've ever made.

@Salt_AU: That doesn't make any sense. Please elaborate.

Oh man m doubtful now. Already pre-ordered the PC version for the sake of fps. So confused right now whether to cancel pc version and order PS4 one. But the 60fps is so tempting. Godddamnit!!

@hrv_25: Just cancel your pre-order altogether. Is there a reason to do it anyway? There will be open betas for you to try the game for yourself.

You, and many other people who pre-order are encouraging developers to bring more incomplete and buggy games to the market. And why shouldn't they? They get paid in advance so they won't bother about bringing the best game out...

Seriously, think about it. You can buy a collector's edition on day one and it will be the same thing.

@hrv_25: If it's anything like the last game, the exclusive content wont be that big a deal. Not getting a strike sucks, but that's about it.

@Mogan: Well, I wanted that sniper :/ I love snipers.... I never got my hands on Jade (Scout) either because of this BS.

Avatar image for joshrmeyer

@trolleyproblem: Jade Rabbit became my favorite gun on multiplayer.

@trolleyproblem: Jade Jackrabbit didn't sound all that fantastic, but Zen Meteor I do kind of wish I could get. Though I don't know if it'd see much use since they brought back Ice Breaker and I got Black Spindle.

@Mogan: I could never get my hands on Ice breaker 2.0. I havent played that game in over a year now :D Had CPA exams to prepare for, and kinda stopped gaming on any thing that made me addicted... lol

Bungie purposely designed this game to trigger some people's addictive nature. Speaks volumes when they design their game like a casino instead of an actual decent game.

@chris91090: My 1000+ hours agrees with you. It got to the point where it felt like I was doing work instead of playing a game for fun. But I still had a ton of fun with friends on this game.

Avatar image for Mogan

@chris91090: They've managed to design it both ways. Except that, unlike a casino, you don't have to pay every time you want to play.

Avatar image for chris91090

@Mogan: Your opinion. Mine: their game activities need work. 1500 hours of Destiny on the Xbox and only a fraction of that I actually enjoyed. Won't do the same with Destiny 2.

Avatar image for Mogan

@chris91090: Well, it's actually a fact that you don't need to put down money every time you play Destiny.

As for the activities, they've talked a big game about how the side content and quests are getting a major overhaul in 2. Don't know if that overhaul is good or not yet, but it sounds like that's where a lot of their effort went with this sequel.

@Mogan: From Bungie, I'm going to have to see solid proof. I WANT Destiny to be good, but I won't make excuses for myself to convince me that it is.

@chris91090: Rent it once it's out. That's what I plan to do.

Avatar image for trolleyproblem

@Mogan: I will just buy Destiny 2, it is not an issue for me. I will also buy Anthem the moment it is out. From there, I will figure out where i spent most of my time :D

Avatar image for trolleyproblem
TrolleyProblem

@Mogan: Well, if you look at it from another point of view...

In Destiny, you put money up front, that gets you gameplay for 1 year. Then you buy more dlc every few months to stay up to date... Don't know man :/

Avatar image for joshrmeyer
JoshRMeyer

@trolleyproblem: Yeah I think I spent $170 total to keep up plus like $10 on cosmetic stuff. Hope there's a season pass this time, or maybe there was and I missed it.

Avatar image for Mogan

@trolleyproblem: I guess that's true. But I figure anybody who played Destiny for a year straight got their money's worth, and would get their money's worth from the DLC.

Also, you can just buy the Complete Edition and get everything for the one price.

@chris91090: Damn that's one hell of an addiction. Well at least you got you monies worth of the game in playtime lol.

@cyberpunk_2077: I can say I at least gave it a chance.

I really hope this nonsense is going to stop. Creating an inconvenience for players on other platforms doesn't sell Sony more consoles because the benefit for the consumer is negligible in the scope of reasons to buy one console over another or gaming on PC.

Avatar image for speed45823

And that's the kind of BS Sony pulls when they're ahead.

Avatar image for pcps4xb

@speed45823: you mean like all those timed exclusives MS announced? I prefer dlc content to be held instead of the whole game. They're both a criminal of this act, not only sony

Avatar image for speed45823
speed45823

@pcps4xb: Ah yes. Now I remember how MS took "Hostage" of Rise of The Tomb Raider for one goddamn year. Yea.....this kind of things needs to stop from both sides.

Avatar image for pcps4xb
PCPS4XB

@speed45823: even this passed E3 conference a bunch of timed exclusives. But I don't they it will ever stop from both sides. For a guy like me that has PC,ps4 pro, XBs, wiiu,3ds and soon the switch it wouldn't effect me because I'll just buy the version of whichever system has more content but for someone who only has 1 it would suck :/

It sucks cuz my main Destiny partner has been whoo'ed to PS4 lol! Not close to enough for me to give up my Xbox pad. It's hilarious cuz we game share on both systems. He says he'll try to do both but I'm damn sure not up for 6+ Raids a week

Avatar image for deactivated-59aca989c9399

Oh boy, I can not wait for the DLC that just recycles old missions into something else and then charge me half the price of the game for it. You lost my business forever after that Bungie.

Avatar image for plus_1

Man Death to Destiny. I really hope Anthem does what I had hoped the original Destiny was gonna do and be.

Avatar image for Mogan

@plus_1: I want Anthem to be good too, but I really can't see an RPG studio making a better shooter than Bungie.

might as well ignore the exclusive content if you arent on PS4, by the time it comes to the other platforms, and the strikes never will by the way, the content will be useless crap you will not want.

I mean this is a practice that both MS and Sony has been guilty of participating in...MS with Tomb Raider (though that was a whole game), and heck they had deals with mad 3rd party games last gen too, this gen its the ps4.

Most of it is completely meaningless crap anyway, who cares?
