More details on Destiny 2 emerge.

In Destiny 2's reveal livestream today, developer Bungie revealed new information about the sequel's revamped weapon system.

Instead of the first game's Primary, Secondary, and Heavy weapon classes, Destiny 2 will channel its guns into Kinetic, Energy, and Power weapon slots.

Power weapons include fusion and sniper rifles, as well as the newly unveiled grenade launchers. Another weapon type, the chaingun, was also revealed today--take a look at it and the grenade launcher below.

Additionally, Bungie revealed some new Super Abilities, including a sword-based move--called the Dawnblade--for the Warlock character class. The attack allows the player character to leap into the air and pull out a sword that could slam into enemies below, as well as launch projectiles at foes further afield.

Another Super, called Sentinel, showed a Titan summoning a Shield that can be used to hit enemies at close range or thrown at a group of far-away enemies to bounce between them. Lastly, the Arcstrider Super allows you to summon a swingable staff that can also be slammed down onto enemies' heads. Take a look at all the newly unveiled Supers in the gallery above.

Elsewhere in today's livestream, Bungie revealed that Destiny 2 will include official clan support, while the game's open world was also detailed. The developer also spoke about Destiny 2's competitive multiplayer, which will now be limited to 4v4. For more, check out our roundup of all the Destiny 2 news and videos.

Bungie previously announced Destiny 2's release date as September 8 alongside special editions of the game. Destiny 2 will have a season pass called the Expansion Pass, which includes "Expansion I and Expansion II, offering brand new story missions, cooperative activities, competitive multiplayer, and a wealth of new weapons, armor, and gear."

Destiny 2 is headed to PC in addition to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and will offer PS4-exclusive content until at least Fall 2018. An open beta will be available to everyone sometime this summer, but if you pre-order the game you can play the beta early.

They said this would be "very different" from the first game. It doesn't look different at all. I put many hours in to the first and I'm done with it. I was excited because I thought it would be visually improved, but it's not. I'm not going to buy this.

@MaxBlaze: If graphical improvement is most important to you then get a high end PC to play it on?...

This complaint seems slightly ill-informed, given the devs still have to get the game to run smoothly on vanilla xbone and ps4 in order to sell at expectation.

@JediHeadband: Wtf are you talking about? This is a sequel. Not an expansion. Visual improvements are a must. Graphical improvements are 100% more important than a high end PC to run it on (which I have). I don't want to play Destiny 1 at 60+FPS I want to play Destiny 2. You're a fanboy.

It's BS that Bungie is STILL so arrogant about telling us what they think we want and not giving us what we've begged for. We want Raid matchmaking!!! Don't tell us it's good enough for Strikes and other game modes, but it's not for Raids. Their argument is that they think players will join and quit....so what?! You know how many times that happens and their spot is taken by another guardian and we go on to complete the activity? A lot. Eventually, the matchmaking pool will be filled with tons of experienced guardians and will have less people quitting. They want to give us "guided games". All that's going to do is allow a clan to look at others inventories and decline them once they see they don't have "X" weapon or armor. The point is, we've been begging for Raid matchmaking for years and they don't listen. It's the same attitude they had with vanilla Destiny and they have shown no signs of learning from their mistakes. This is exactly why after 2+ years, I stopped playing Destiny after their "weapon tuning 2.0" patch, and I'll likely ignore this one too.

This game will not have everything you see in that trailer it will be cut up to **** big time like D1 2 expansions with a 3rd one that will be full price and then a collectors edition soon after, please people don't fucking pre order there's no need in todays games they have plenty of copies at launch and you get **** all for your money. Loyalty went out the window after the PS2 era in my opinion

@Dav_id83: And you know that half the stuff they cut out will be just the same locations with few minor differences. Maybe a few reverse starting points, etc.

Yet another developer that talks about expansions before the game is even released. This basically communicates that they're committed to gating off the full game behind DLC by releasing an incomplete game for full price at launch then charging you more for the rest of it through 2 expansions. These blatant cash grabs aren't even trying to be subtle anymore.

That said, Destiny's never really had a competent story from what I played of the original, just "go here, shoot dudes" for weak and seemingly melodramatic reasons of "light vs darkness". Here's hoping that with setting an actual obvious antagonist instead of some nebulous "darkness" to fight, they can craft a competent story that provides worthwhile reasons to get invested in what your character is doing (having a good reason to shoot the dudes will be a start)

@goodguymalachai:

Fair indeed regarding expansions. As a consumer I'm turned off to the expansion model that so many developer's like Bungie are using nowadays. It's a dubious way to price and market a game and it divides the community over time.

On the up-side, it allows developers to gauge the community desires and then cater to those desires via the expansions. It's advantageous to the gamer sometimes to be able to give the developer feedback, via direct contact or data from play time, that allows them to make adjustments to future portions of the game.

The "base game" should be called "Destiny 2: Section 1" and the "expansions" should be called "Section 2" and "Section 3". Who are they kidding? Destiny 2 is essentially Expansion I or Section I. It's not a complete game so I don't get the $60 price tag?

The costly expansions are what kept me from sticking with the original Destiny. They were a mixed bag of quality, they divided the community, and they were fairly costly. I think we were paying for Peter Dinklage and Paul McCartney!!...Which added NOTHING to the gaming experience.

Bungie was essentially saying Destiny was a $160+ game. I was really excited about this game and hoping it would come to Switch, but when I heard the mention of Expansions I thought, "Oh jeez. Here we go again." I'm not going down that road. This game just doesn't have THAT much to offer compared to what else is out in the market. Consumers will eventually wise up to this.

@n00bsla3r66: trust me, as someone who put 300 hours into the first this looks immensely better and what they talked about putting into this game sounds like at least twice as much content as what destiny has now with the base game and 4 expansions

@shlompskii: Key word: "what they talked about ". Time and again, it has been proven you can't really trust what devs say. We won't know for sure until we play the game.
