Now Playing: Destiny 2 - How To Start Lumina Exotic Hand Cannon Quest

AMD's new Ryzen 3000 processors just arrived in stores on Sunday, July 7--and within hours, Destiny 2 PC players reported problems. Some are seeing Bungie's shooter MMO become unplayable when they install the new Ryzen chips in their PCs, and the speculation is that Bungie will need to patch the game to fix the issue.

[Update: After days of issues for new adopters of the Ryzen 3000 CPUs, Bungie says a fix is on the way. On July 12, it announced, "AMD has identified the issue impacting the ability to run Destiny 2 on Ryzen 3000 processors and have implemented a BIOS fix that has been distributed to partners." The BIOS update is not yet available, but it is coming soon. Bungie says that you should check with your motherboard manufacturer in the "coming days" for a BIOS update that should allow Destiny 2 to be played on the fresh hardware. Hopefully it comes before Xur leaves.]

Players took to the Bungie forums and to Reddit to share and discuss the issue. According to reports, trying to start Destiny 2 from Activision Blizzard's launcher causes the game to hang forever. The computer thinks the game has started, but it never actually loads up. Posts on and Reddit suggest the CPU is to blame, with at least one poster claiming to have fixed the issue by removing the new Ryzen chip and going back to their previous system.

PC-focused outlets published reviews of the new Ryzen chips to go with their launch, many of which detailed games reviewers tried with the CPUs, so it doesn't appear that the issue with Destiny 2 is necessarily affecting other games. That suggests Bungie will need to issue a patch to make Destiny 2 compatible with AMD's new processors. We've reached out to Bungie for a comment on the situation and any details on when a fix might be made available.

In the meantime, it seems PC players will need to hang onto their old processors and motherboards to keep playing Destiny 2, what with the new Lumina Exotic hand cannon to chase. The weekly reset on Tuesday, July 9, also marks the start of a new slate of Moments of Triumph to earn, making this a particularly rough time for Destiny PC players to lose their access to the game.

PC gaming isn't dead, unlike what some might claim. It is alive and well. As for those using this as evidence for PC gaming inferiority, ya'll need to understand that this CPU just released. Almost nobody will be running these CPUs for a little while. By the time people really start upgrading, Destiny 2 will have had plenty of time to receive an update to address the issue.

Yeah we all love AMD. By the way I returned to Destiny a couple of days ago after a year and it's so diferrent. Should I buy the annual pass now that it's just 15€ (I only got curse of Osiris before quitting) or wait until the game migrates to Steam? If anyone can help me with that I would appreciate it.

@gargar It takes waaay more power though. Especially the defibrillator the PC needs since it's been dead for decades.

@veryDERPY Um.. a playstation exclusive game that can be played on PC using PS Now or with PCSX4 Emulator? Seems like it'd run at whatever resolution you could reliably stream to your PC or whatever you set the emulator to run it at.

And this is why whenever anyone says PC is always superior I reply "when it works".

@Barighm So you base this claim one of badly coded game?

PC games is superior no matter how you look at it. Better graphics, choice between controller and K&M, not having to pay to play online, games are cheaper, anything else?
