Monte Cristo has today announced that it will release Desert Rats vs. Afrika Corps for the PC later this year. The real-time strategy game, which is currently in development at Hungary-based Digital Reality, is set in North Africa during World War II and will feature both English and German campaigns.

Desert Rats vs. Afrika Corps will feature around 20 missions in total, with objectives ranging from reconnaissance operations to large-scale sieges of desert fortresses. Both the English and the Germans will have access to more than 25 different unit types, including riflemen, scouts, machine gunners, medics, engineers, flamethrowers, snipers, and grenade launchers. Vehicle classes in the game will include recon, tank, antitank, artillery, antiair artillery, transport, and air support.

Three difficulty settings will be available for Desert Rats vs. Afrika Corps' single-player game, while a flexible AI system will let players issue orders to units instructing them to respond to situations in a certain way. In addition to the single-player game, Desert Rats vs. Afrika Corps will feature LAN and Internet support for up to four players.

Desert Rats vs. Afrika Corps is currently scheduled for release this winter. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
