Now Playing: Death Stranding Game Awards 2017 Trailer

Hideo Kojima's mysterious next project, Death Stranding, has gotten more in-depth (and intensely weird) new trailer . At The Game Awards, we got a look at an extended trailer detailing the incredibly bizarre and creepy world of Kojima Productions' next project. Despite more context, there's still plenty of questions that remain to be answered.

In the 8-minute long trailer, we're finally given some details to the madness behind Kojima's new game. With Norman Reedus' character now wearing clothes, a full body suit with a robotic eye-like device attached over his shoulder, he sneaks through a field filled with bodies. With him is another man, who refers to Reedus' character as "Sam." Eventually, the two men are surrounded by an oil-like substance seen from the previous trailers. The second man is holding a canister containing a baby, seen from previous trailers. The two men eventually see another figure clad in black, silently motioning them to run--who disappears soon after.

Eventually, the second man is overcome by the black substance and is abducted by large black tendrils. "Sam" takes the canister that the second man dropped, and witnesses in the distance a large giant, who consumes his companion. Soon after, Norman Reedus' character finds himself in front a black crater after falling unconscious. With only the canister, he looks off into the distance and sees five floating figures above the crater.

Before the end of the trailer, Norman Reedus' muses on the beginning of humanity from the first big bang, and whether they will be able to survive after the next. From there, the trailer ends.

After the trailer, Hideo Kojima and Norman Reedus took to the stage. During their presentation, Norman Reedus praised Kojima as a creative, stating that the experience working on the game opened him up to new things during the making of this game. Before leaving, Reedus closed out their showing of Death Stranding by stating "And nothing's gonna stop us this time."

There's no official word yet on when Death Stranding will release, but Kojima himself hinted that it might launch in 2018. It stars Mads Mikkelson (Hannibal), director Guillermo Del Toro, and Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead). In April, Kojima spoke a little about the game, explaining why he wanted Norman Reedus to be naked in the game's first trailer. We've since learned why its fog looks so nice.

Well I think I can say that is the weirdest trailer I've ever seen. I am interested in learning more about this game though. The story just based off that trailer seems like it will be wild and crazy.

Avatar image for ganonsdad

maybe that would have made a lot more sense if i'd dropped acid before watching it.

I just have the feeling this is just going to be a load of old bollocks.

I will be interested to see some gameplay going forward. I loved MGS, but this is really weird.

I can Taste ONCE AGAIN the Tears of Xbox Peasant's.

Avatar image for Greyfox-101

Wow, some creativity in the entertainment industry for once. I forgot what it's like not seeing some world-ending skybeam. I hope this actually gets released and doesn't see some PT like letdown or cancellation.

There's a Ludens key-chain hanging from the babe-pod.

This is what happens when Hideo doesn't take his meds.

is this going to be a ps4 exclusive or just a timed exclusive before hitting pc? i know it is stated somewhere that it is going to pc, but that was a long time ago and all the evidence since then contradicts that from ever happening.

- the game is being published and presumably funded by sony -- since kojima productions is independent, that would make this a 2nd party game?

- the game is utilising the decima engine, which was developed by guerrilla games for horizon -- it is proprietary tech and not being used by 3rd parties.

- there has never been mention of pc in the trailer credits -- no pc logos etc.

how can a game that is sony published AND using a sony owned engine also be heading to pc? unless kojima had a SPECIAL arrangement with his contract -- a very special arrangement indeed -- this game will stay a ps4 exclusive. MAYBE kojima is planning to publish the port on his own without sony's involvement? that is the only way i can see that being even remotely possible... still doesn't explain the engine being used on pc, but i will give the benefit of the doubt for now.

Ok, now I understand even LESS about this game.....

Avatar image for olddadgamer

@airboygt: Dude, it's Kojima. You'll understand less after the next trailer, and even less after you've played the game for 150 hours.

@urbanman2004: The baby is a badass-making that claw sensor thing work!

Great short movie! Now we just need a game (or some gameplay perhaps).

Dear Hideo

I am a BF/COD modern AAA fanboy....

Please, make single player campaign only last 2 hours, maybe 3 the most. We real gamers don't need that crap. Please just make 2-3 online maps, and please, make sure to add weapon skins !!!! Much more important to have weapon skins than good SP campaign. I want my gun to have zebra stripes and also a dreamcatcher hanging off of it, together with a used condom.

No more SP campaigns !!!!!!! Not needed.

Now I go back to Destiny !! GOTY !!!!!! Oh, Xur, where are you my boy????

Avatar image for mrbojangles25

This is why Kojima failed at his first love, cinema, and never got to do that for a living :P

With that said, he has my attention because this is delightfully weird. I expect the teasers to not be all that important, and have little to do with the game. Misdirection.

Also I am a big Mikkelson fan.

Classic Kojima BS. Nonsensical content.

He's one weird dude.

Avatar image for domiddian

@Servare: Yeah, I agree to a point; the MGS series sometimes felt bloated, but I'm still really intrigued nonetheless.

Avatar image for domiddian

W-w-what the hell just happened??

Avatar image for Archangel3371

That was so freaky and bizarre. I loved it. I also got a kick out of the shot that Norman gave to Konami for the Silent Hills debacle.

Avatar image for overachiever89

@Archangel3371: what did he say to konami?

Avatar image for Archangel3371

@overachiever89: Just a little, “And there’s nothing that will stand in our way.” comment.

Avatar image for allyal1

Well I'm not sure what i just watched, but I loved it!

Avatar image for untouchables111

Avatar image for kaidou069

@pasullica: You just sum up every Hideo Kojima's games.

Avatar image for robopsn

I'll have sex with this trailer first thing in the mourning.

Avatar image for kratosbeard

It feels like metal gear so much, only the story is totaly different.

I think there going to be some stealth elements in this game . But in a totaly new way, hideo is going to play with us again. From the trailer it's clearly that the enemies can't see you if you don't breathe, could he bring that to the game some how. He may use until dawn controller stand still, he love fucking with controllers

Avatar image for deactivated-5afeea4d8be41

Hmmm, looks interesting BUT is it going to be a bit a convoluted mess? Kojima has a habit of over plotting his games.
