Deadpool Sequel Loses Composer, Following Director's Exit

At the end of October, Deadpool director Tim Miller dropped out of the sequel amid "creative differences" with star Ryan Reynolds. Now, the first movie's composer has also left the follow-up.

In a statement posted to Twitter (via Collider), Tom Holkenborg AKA Junkie XL said making the music for the first Deadpool was a "monumental chapter" in his life, both personally and professionally. After Miller dropped out of the sequel, Holkenborg said he did some "soul-searching," which led him to discover that a Deadpool movie without Miller directing it "just does not sit right with [him]."

"It was a difficult decision, as I love the project so much and I know how eagerly the next installment will be anticipated," he said. "It's hard to walk away from something so unique, but it also has to feel right. Hope everyone understands. Onward and upward."

Holkenborg is currently working on the music for Zack Snyder's Justice League, which premieres in fall 2017.

Miller, who directed Deadpool, moved on to produce the upcoming live-action/CG Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Last week, it was reported that John Wick director David Leitch is now the frontrunner to replace Miller for Deadpool 2.

According to that report, after the huge success of Deadpool, Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, was not only given a bigger payday but also more creative control for the sequel. This reportedly contributed to clashes with Miller over things like casting.

Released in February, the R-rated Deadpool was a smash hit. It made $782 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $58 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

In June 2016, Deadpool 2's script was nearing completion from writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who are returning from the first film. The movie was at one time expected to start shooting in early 2017, though it remains to be seen if that's still the case now that it has no director.
