Deadpool 3 Removed From Disney's First-Half Of 2024 Schedule, Suggesting A Delay

The film was initially scheduled to release on May 3, 2024.

Deadpool 3 has been removed from Disney's release schedule for the first half of 2024, suggesting that the movie will be delayed.

According to the latest Q3 2023 earnings report from Walt Disney, the schedule of upcoming theatrical releases seems to have been updated to exclude Deadpool 3 after a May 3, 2024 release was confirmed earlier this year, with no sign of a new date.

The schedule now shows that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be the only film to release in the month of May, followed by Inside Out 2 in June. It looks like Disney won't be releasing any movies from April through to late May, suggesting that the third Deadpool installment has received an unannounced delay.

A possible reason for the updated schedule could be due to the ongoing writers' strike. Members of the Writers Guild of America went on strike in May as studios would not negotiate a fair contract agreement, meaning current projects in production are going forward without writers present. Deadpool 3 originally continued filming this way but was halted shortly after the American actors' union SAG-AFTRA went on strike on July 14.

Marvel Studios' upcoming vampire thriller Blade was delayed due to the writers' strike and it looks like other films such as Fantastic Four--which is set to begin filming in January 2024--could also be impacted.

Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Deadpool 3 set photos leaked showing actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman together in their respective costumes for the first time. Reynolds, who plays the titular character, can be seen wearing the usual red and black suit, while the long-time Wolverine actor is pictured sporting the iconic yellow and blue X-Men costume.
