DC's New Card Game Looks More Magic Than Marvel Snap

DC has its own card battler coming to PC soon, and the mechanics look a lot more complex than the breakout Marvel hit.

DC vs. Marvel is a rivalry almost as old as comic books, and now the two leading capes and cowls companies have another arena where they'll be in direct competition: digital CCGs. After a long dormant period, a new trailer for DC Dual Force, DC's own digital card game, promises a PC release coming soon.

The trailer shows off some of the universe's most iconic heroes, like Superman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash. Each of them has flavorful effects like Superman's invincibility or Flash being so speedy he can take double turns. The trailer also teases a brief look at its unique 2v2 combat between hero cards.

The trailer didn't detail an exact release date or share plans for other platforms aside from PC. The game was first announced in 2021 from Cryptozoic, the maker of the DC physical deck-building game. At the time it was slated for a 2022 release.

The advent of a superhero-based CCG is bound to draw comparisons to Marvel Snap, which was one of our favorite games of 2022. But Snap is a decidedly simple game that prioritizes approachability. DC Dual Force appears to be more complex, with multiple keywords and even tiers of powers on each hero. That suggests this could be a more advanced card game for players who want that additional depth.
