DC's Justice League Dark Movie Close to Signing Main Actors

As well as the high-profile superhero movies in its Expanded Universe, Warner continues to develop a variety of other DC projects. One of these is Justice League Dark, a supernatural take on the classic superhero team. In October, it was revealed that despite some initial uncertainty, the film was moving ahead. Now there are reports that producers are close to casting the main roles.

According to the Latino Review, Colin Farrell is the studio's first choice to play occult magician John Constantine, with Ewan McGregor also under consideration. The character was previously played by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 film Constantine, and more recently by Matt Ryan in both the short-lived TV show of the same name and on The CW's currently-airing Arrow.

Other actors being considered for Justice League Dark include Ron Perlman as Swamp Thing, Monica Bellucci as Madame Xanadu, and Ben Mendelsohn as the villainous Anton Arcane. No director has signed on as yet, and Heroic Hollywood reports that Mendelsohn's involvement may depend on who takes the job.

Guillermo del Toro was at one point in line to direct, and submitted a script to Warner last year. However, while he still remains on board as an executive producer, Scott Rudin has since taken over the development of the project.

In June, Warner moved some of its more adult-themed DC and Vertigo properties over to subsidiary company New Line Cinema. Neil Gaiman's Sandman is under development there, while Vertigo's Preacher will appear as an AMC TV show in 2016.
