DC's Batman Movie Might Not Start Production Until 2018
The Dark Wait.
DC fans awaiting the standalone Batman movie will have to wait a little longer. It has been reported that the film, which is being called The Batman and will star Ben Affleck, won't start production until 2018.
Variety reporter Justin Kroll took to Twitter to explain that director Matt Reeves' work on the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes means that he won't even start pre-production on the The Batman until this summer:
Hearing Matt Reeves contracted to work on APES till at least end of June, so production on BATMAN likely not starting till 2018— Justin Kroll (@krolljvar) March 14, 2017
Also means any casting rumors you hear are likely BS seeing that he wouldn't have time to meet with any talent till at least July— Justin Kroll (@krolljvar) March 14, 2017
It had previously been rumoured that The Batman could be released in Summer 2018. Affleck was originally slated to direct the movie, as well as co-write and star. However, in January he stepped down as director, stating: "There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion, and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require."
Reeves was confirmed as the new director in February. His previous movies include Cloverfield, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Let Me In.
Affleck first played Batman in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will play the character again in November's Justice League. Earlier this month, Justice League's new-look Batmobile was revealed by director Zack Snyder.
