DC Is Making An Animated Injustice Movie

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has confirmed that an Injustice animated movie will be in the studio's slate of upcoming films--spinning off the popular video game and comics franchise of the same name. A further "advanced" sneak peek of the project will be among the special features in the upcoming Blu-ray and digital releases of Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two, according to a release.

No other details, including a release date or voice cast, have been announced. But it's a safe bet fans will take to the internet and begin speculating, predicting, and campaigning for certain voice actors to take on the many sizable roles the Injustice franchise offers from the DC Universe, a game series that prominently features storylines for characters including Batman, Superman, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and The Flash. While Injustice 3 hasn't yet been officially confirmed to be in development, the movie could have compelling possibilities for overlaps with such a title--it's also entirely possible that this might be a sequel to the games, or merely a retelling of the stories told in them. With a series where so much of the world is bizarro, literally anything could happen in the story.

As for the upcoming The Long Halloween, Party One will hit digital platforms and Blu-ray on June 22, with Part Two to follow digitally on July 27 and on Blu-ray August 10. It's based on the Batman story of the same name which ran for 13 issues between 1996 and '97. The Long Halloween is widely considered one of Batman's best and most iconic stories.

The film's voice cast includes Batman/Bruce Wayne portrayed by Jensen Ackles, who had previously voiced Jason Todd/Red Hood in 2010's Batman: Under The Red Hood. Joining Ackles are Josh Duhamel as Harvey Dent, Billy Burke as James Gordon, Titus Welliver as Carmine Falcone, David Dastmalchian as Calendar Man, Troy Baker as Joker, Amy Landecker as Barbara Gordon, Julie Nathanson as Gilda Dent, Jack Quaid as Alberto, Fred Tatasciore as Solomon Grundy, and Alastair Duncan as Alfred. Former Glee star Naya Rivera, who died in July last year, completed her voice work as Catwoman/Selina Kyle for The Long Halloween--this will be her last credited role.

In related news, it was also announced on Tuesday that a new animated Batman show is heading to HBO Max and Cartoon Network, with JJ Abrams serving as executive producer.
