DC Comics MOBA Infinite Crisis Shutting Down

"This was an extremely difficult decision to make."

Infinite Crisis, the DC Comics free-to-play PC MOBA from Warner Bros., will officially shut down this summer. Boston-based developer Turbine announced the news today on the game's Steam page.

No Caption Provided

"After much deliberation, we regret to announce the official shutdown of Infinite Crisis," the studio said.

Development on the game ends immediately, while the service overall will close on August 14. Between now and then, you can continue to play the game.

"This was an extremely difficult decision to make," Turbine added. "On behalf of the entire Infinite Crisis team we want to thank all of you for your feedback, support, and for joining together to create one of the best communities in gaming."

Turbine did not say if it will issue refunds for people with a credit balance on their account. People with questions about the closure of Infinite Crisis can reach Turbine's support staff here.

It is unclear what impact the forthcoming shutdown of Infinite Crisis will have on Turbine staffing levels. We've followed up with the company to find out.

After an extended beta period, Infinite Crisis saw its full release at the end of March 2015.

Wow that was really freakin quick. The dang thing just came out a few months ago and already they're ditching it? I played a few hours of it and frankly wasn't to impressed by it. But it's still sad to see it fail so quickly. I hope this doesn't discourage other developers from improving on this and making another DC based game. Although being honest I'd rather see a better Marvel game for PC.

While this game had potential, there are some serious problems. chief among them is unless you're playing with a group of friends, the player environment is VERY toxic. Unlike League of Legends, the developers never put forth any real infrastructure to change that.

That has to be the shortest life for any online game, MOBA or not, ever. What a joke.

@ChiefFreeman: Not the fastest. The game "APB" held a place in the Guiness Book of World Records for being the shortest lived online game ever. Its servers stayed up for 79 days. (roughly 2 and a half months)

Then it was dethroned by the game "Brink", which died in 38 days.

@SterlingFox: To be fair. Reloaded brought it back though.

Brink was considered an online game?

The game was doomed from the start.

It wasn't fun, no one really wanted to cover it because it wasn't fun, and was in beta for quite a long time.. never really improving its fun factor. It has nothing unique that I can remember.

Just having comic characters isn't good enough; see Marvel Heroes for another example of a poorly received game.

Well, that is a shame. Good thing I never invested anymore time or any money into it.

The game, in the early stages that I played, was really fun. What turned me off was trying to fix an account error, that they would not answer any tickets I submitted about to get it fixed.

The game hasn't even been out for 3 months yet in final release form. Why bother doing it at all then if you're not gonna give it the time to grow??? What a waste of peoples' time & money.

I honestly dont feel bad when games close especially when they are in over saturated markets with little innovation. I wish a lot more uninspired mmos and mobas would close.

It's so sad when these games die and they truly do die, not just abandoned in terms of sequels/updates, but actually blasted into oblivion.

I LOVE DC Comics (read their stuff all the time) but I'm not interested in MOBA's or MMO's for the most part. The game looked interesting enough but I'm not really into that genre. Hopefully they'll let the fans create their own servers to use to continue playing the game UNLIKE what Sony and WB did for The Matrix Online.

Sad to hear. I wanted to like the game, but controls or movement of the game is what turned me off. I hate to compare, but movement in league of legends just feels so much better then this.

I'm sure it wasn't actually. This game was doomed from it's inception.

Thumbs up to free to play! It's a brutal market to be in because as more games shut down, you realize it's a risk to fork over cash to games that aren't exactly top tier in the genre because they can close at any time... which ultimately hurts these games that try to exist in some realm other than Dota2 or League because they need that money to keep going, yet their position makes people wary of giving it to them to begin with.

In a market flooded with mobas, when yours is almost an exact clone of LoL, the chances of it being successful are pretty slim.

If they can the game after 2 months they need to refund a lot more than credit balances. People were expecting to have whatever they bought for a reasonable period of time.

Wow, just got out of extended beta in March? Let this be a lesson to developers; the MOBA (and MMO) market is overflowing with games right now, trying to jump in that market is career suicide.

@xStarScream86x: What in the world?? I just got a notification for your comment. I posted that comment 4 months ago, did you literally just respond to this, or is this a glitch in the Gamespot comment system or something?
