Dawn of War expands again

THQ and Relic pledge a return to Warhammer 40K universe again with unnamed add-on for PC real-time strategy game.

Considering that the Warhammer 40,000 universe is built on the concept of a handful of factions locked into unending combat, it only makes sense that THQ's Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War should be a similar ongoing effort.

Today THQ and Dawn of War developer Relic Entertainment announced that they are working on a second expansion pack to the 2004 real-time strategy game. Following up on the original Dawn of War and last year's expansion, Winter Assault, this new, as-yet-untitled add-on will throw two more races into the ongoing fray, bringing the total number to seven.

One of the new races, the technologically advanced Tau, has already been unveiled, but the other is a mystery. Assuming it's an existing race from the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop strategy game, it could be the Dark Eldar, Tyranids, Necron, Witch Hunters, or Daemonhunters.

The untitled expansion is due to arrive this fall. For more on the series, check out GameSpot's reviews of Dawn of War and Winter Assault.
