DAS Entertainment has today announced that it has acquired Freedom Games, the developer of Eric Young's Squad Assault: West Front. DAS Entertainment plans to continue supporting and developing the Squad Assault series and also plans to release a number of its own titles under the Freedom Games brand.

“Dynamic Animation Systems and DAS Entertainment are excited to be supporting and continuing the development of the Freedom Games brand and the Squad Assault franchise," said David Slayton, president of DAS Entertainment. "Our advanced graphics and gaming technology will enhance the gamers experience, and, through a spirit of cooperation with the great fans, the game engine will continue to be supported and improved."

In cooperation with Matrix Games, DAS Entertainment's plans for the Squad Assault series include a number of expansion packs for West Front, a spin-off Squad Assault title for the Xbox, and a PC sequel provisionally entitled Squad Assault: Operation Market Garden. The sequel will benefit from DAS Entertainment's in-house technologies, the Apex Graphics Engine, and the Force Game Engine.

“We’ve enjoyed working with Freedom Games and bringing their brand of top quality wargaming to our customers in the Matrix Games community," said David Heath, director of operations for Matrix Games. "The new technologies, platforms, and ideas that DAS Entertainment brings to the table are very exciting for the future of the Squad Assault series and working with DAS. Wargamers should watch these guys!”

We'll bring you more information on DAS Entertainment's plans for the Squad Assault series as soon as it becomes available.
