Darksiders II Definitive Edition Release Date Listed By Retailers

Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and Walmart say the "Deathinitive" edition will launch on October 27.

A release date for Darksiders II "Deathinitive" Edition, a remastered version of the 2012 action-adventure game for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has not been officially announced by publisher Nordic Games. However, major United States retailers agree that the title will launch on October 27.

That's the date listed on the Deathinitive Edition product pages on Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and Walmart. We spoke with a representative for Nordic Games about the game's release date, but they were not able to confirm the date right away. We'll update this post if we hear something definitive.

No Caption Provided

The new version of Darksiders II is in development at Gunfire Games, which is staffed "almost entirely" by people who worked on the original Darksiders at developer Vigil Games. It runs at 1080p on both Xbox One and PS4.

"This isn't a simple port," the developer said on its website. "We've put a lot of time to improve both the visuals and gameplay to make it on par with current releases. It's been fun adding more polish to a game that is near and dear to our hearts."

For more, check out these comparison images that show much the game has improved since we last saw it in 2012. If the October 27 release date is genuine, it means the game will ship on the same day as Halo 5.

Looking ahead, Nordic Games--which acquired the Darksiders franchise from THQ when the company went bankrupt--has said it has plans for a third game in the series.

I played it on the 360. But, I'll give it another round. It would be nice if there was a cross-save function. That way I could do a newgame+ on the X1.

I still wish this was a bundle with the first game I know it would need more work but if you want to get people interested in this series again it shouldn't be left out. Still anything is great I really want two more games starring the other horsemen. Does anyone know if this is coming to PC?

Agreed. They need to have the first one redone as well.

Who was the genius who decided to release this alongside Halo 5, right in the middle of the holiday game season? Where it will be overlooked by pretty much everyone. They really should've tried to release it in August or so. It's a great game, except for the Bone King segment, which I never ever want to play through again.

They should be working on the next two installments, not polishing something that is already great.

Good launch window with Halloween being right around the corner and it's priced appropriately @ $30.00.

..........Another Rerelease(Notice I didnt say remaster...for that it would actually have to be remastered) Idiots who buy rereleases deserve no new games. They are why we arent getting new games.

@IanNottinghamX: A lot of the "rereleases" on PS4, I've been getting because I haven't played them before.

@IanNottinghamX: Haha really?? For every remaster/re-release , there are about 10 new games coming out. You're kinda blowing it out of proportion.

Man I loved this game, to me it's the best zelda in years. I know that's blasphemy to some but hey, we all have our opinions. I loved how they introduced fast travel from inside the dungeon, lots of games should learn from that. I think I'll pick this up when it's 20 bucks and enjoy it again.

I really want this to be 60fps.... The PC version runs rock-solid at that rate, and a game with action like this needs to be fluid.

Never got the chance to play it on original release, but I have no time these days. Replaying Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 (just got a used PS3), then Fallout Anthology and Nathan Drake Collection and the list just goes on.

@mesome713: The Wii U runs at a pretty rough frame rate in my experience. If possible, I'd recommend getting it on PC instead.

@alrivalen: A few articles back on this, Nordic did say a remaster of the first game wasn't ruled out. It's entirely possible if sales of this version do well.

@just_mishaari: Perhaps, but I like where your head is at. IMO the mark of a current gen title truly making use of the hardware is the ability to maintain ~60fps regardless of circumstances onscreen.

@Chunkman: my head is between my ears, but I would like to know where are you pulling your opinions from ? Since I have read the article and they did not mention anything other than 1080p, does your claim have any evidence or prove to it? Or is it simply pulled opinion of yours ?

I don't know what definitive edition they are on about. The PC version looks and plays well at over 1080p, 60fps. Unless, they are adding a total graphical overhaul (which I doubt) and other cool gameplay features missing from the original. Oh and extra levels ! I won't be getting this for sure. But if those of you who missed out on the original release on PC/360/PS3, this is a fine game.

@starjay009: Yes, the game got a visual overhaul. The game has much better textures, much better ambient occlusion, much better (and actually functional shadows compared to PC) and newer, better lightning.

So it actually looks much better than the PC version.

@starjay009: they can improve texture quality, reflections, lighting/shadows, trasparency, view distance, details/clutter, etc.

So much more to graphics than just resolution, hence why ps4/xb1 games of different resolutions still look so alike

Sadly they didn't state whether the game would be rebalanced. I loved the job Ninja Theory did to "DmC: Devil May Cry", including all the awesome little tweaks!
