Now Playing: Dark Souls Remastered On Nintendo Switch Delayed - GS News Update

Bandai Namco has announced the Nintendo Switch release of Dark Souls: Remastered has been delayed. The game was originally scheduled to launch alongside the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions on May 25, but it has now been pushed to summer 2018. The Solaire of Astora Amiibo has also been postponed into the same timeframe. The PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions, meanwhile, are unaffected.

Dark Souls: Remastered was announced for Nintendo Switch during a Direct event held in January. The Switch version displays the game at 1080p resolution with 30 FPS when played in TV mode. Nintendo also clarified that the Dark Souls Remastered "includes the Artorias of the Abyss DLC, as well as improved framerate and resolution from the original."

Those playing on PS4, Xbox One, or PC will be able to "experience the rich world of Dark Souls in upscaled 4K resolution with 60FPS when playing on a PlayStation 4 Pro system, Xbox One X, and PC," according to the original press release.

Dark Souls Remastered will also support "up to six players" for online multiplayer, which is one of the major changes from the original versions of the game. You can read about all the differences between the original Dark Souls and Dark Souls: Remastered here.

In GameSpot's original Dark Souls review Kevin VanOrd awarded it a 9.5/10, describing it as "riveting."

"Dark Souls requires intense focus," he said. "This isn't a lighthearted romp in a bright and colorful fantasy world; it's a methodical journey into the frightening unknown. And that's what makes it so riveting. Some games try to scare you with bump-in-the-night shocks and far-off howls, but Dark Souls doesn't require such predictable methods of terror. Its terrors emanate from its very core, each step bringing you closer to another inevitable death.

"How amazing that such a terrible place could be so inviting. The game's world is so memorable, and its action so thrilling, that it might invade your thoughts even when you aren't playing, silently urging you to escape the real world and return to this far more treacherous one. Dark Souls doesn't just surpass other dungeon crawlers; it skewers them with a razor-sharp halberd and leaves behind their soulless corpses."

Nintendo must think again about the hardwares that she is working. If u want to stay console developer you must use a hardware friendly to 3d party companies otherwise stay a game developer.

3 problems for an old game like this are too much.

First, big delay.

Second, lower resolution.

Third, more expensive, because until summer PS4 version will be 10-15€. As it happens with other games like doom.

Eh, no big deal to me. I'm broke anyway. :)

The issues most likely has to do with the online multiplayer functionality of the switch or the sleep functionality and how a souls game is supposed to be reliant on fires to save and stop which isn't functional on a mobile platform like the switch. I was initially upset with the news as I thoroughly enjoy the mobility aspect which I personally find useful and more important then the increase graphical power of the ps4 version so despite being able to buy it on the PS4 I will most likely still hold out for the switch version. My guess is that it will come out near the end of August right before the paid online service begins on the Switch.

I hope it looks better than Scholar of the First Sin on the PS4. But I highly doubt it.

Avatar image for gustavob

"It looks worse than PS3/360 version, but at least it's portable".

I can see that coming.

Avatar image for cherub1000

Personally I'll be picking this up on ps4, glad there's no delay there (yet). Sucks for switch users but I guess if it means a better result then gotta ride that wave.

They need more time to downgrade it even further.

"Dark Souls Remastered will also support "up to six players" for online multiplayer"

6 player local multiplayer with 6 Nswitches seem pretty nice way to scream and shouts with/at your friends.

This will placed nicely among Nintendo's relationship testing local "fun" multiplayer game.

What the f. Glad I'll have it on ps4 as well but I wanted both on the same day.

Can't figure out what's so amazing about playing mobile versions of a game. Why is this so great that you'd pass up better visuals and much better performance. Id take 4k/60 on a 75" hdr in my accoustically treated room with 7.2.2 Atmos surround over some crappy little low res screen that I'm able to take somewhere with me. That might be useful to me once or twice a year or to take to the shitter for a few minutes but after that I'd want the much better version again and since there's no cross play or cross saving there's zero reason I'd want the switch version

Avatar image for lonewolf1044

@BuyaPC: It is the ability to play on the go and the player while able to play on the go must understand that the game will never look as good as it does on the console.

Avatar image for garysan

@lonewolf1044: I wouldn't say never.

Avatar image for lonewolf1044

@garysan: That is true but for right now it is not possible maybe down the road.

Avatar image for NTM23

@lonewolf1044: While I understand that sentiment, I also find that weird. Heck, I don't do it anyways, but the Switch is a decently priced system. I wouldn't ever think about taking the Switch out in public; playing it on a bus as it seems some might do on the way to work or school or something. It's not super costly, but it's more than enough that I wouldn't take the chance. Plus, from all that I understand about it, it doesn't have much of a battery life, even when you put longer lasting batteries in it.

It seems to be most suitable for those that want to play in bed before they go to sleep. I agree, at least from what I want out of my gaming experience, with BuyaPC. I for one cannot see why anyone would want to get Doom or Wolfenstein on the Switch compared to any other version really. Playing handheld being the sole reason, at least to me, isn't a good enough reason at all. I guess that's just me though.

That all said, I can completely understand it if the person just doesn't care and/or has to spend as little money as possible on one system since they have to spend that money elsewhere.

You know, I bought a Switch. I bought one when it was hard to find and paid 2x the price for it.

I'd part with it for half the price today.

I don't like any of its games.

Vita had MGS 1,2,3, PW; GoW 1 & 2; MvC3; Gravity Rush; Persona 2,3,4; Danganronpa...and that system was dead before it took off.

Nintendo's just riding the nostalgia train with Zelda, Mario etc.

Not for me.

Avatar image for Sgt_Crow

@proceeder: Why not just give it away? You can easily sell it for half price. Just another bullshit story.

Avatar image for sakaixx

@proceeder: lol its ninty. They been riding on nostalgia for years.

Avatar image for lonewolf1044

@proceeder: The only thing about the Switch, while it has its Mario Brothers, Zelda, Smash Brothers and other Nintendo franchises, the third party games are games I already have on PC and my other consoles and I am somewhat reluctant to buy the Switch and the games that was already released for the other media hardware. The Switch is great for those that do not own the other consoles or PC and want to play the remasters. However, I do like the portable side of it but I rather wait even if it is an long time before picking one up

Avatar image for Packer1080

@proceeder: Sounds about right. It was the same thing with the Wii U and the Wi. Nintendo can't produce enough games on their own. 3rd party is always absent as well. Nintendo is a joke and should stop making consoles.

Not all of us live in America GameSpot, believe it or not.

"Summer" isn't helpful world wide. I can only imagine that you mean June.

Avatar image for mr_indiff

@boodleout: Agreed. Where I from, it's already summer.

Avatar image for sakaixx

Its a switch. Delays are inevitable, especially with how switch ver barely updated graphics wise compared to ps4/xbone ver.

Avatar image for Packer1080

@sakaixx: I hear the Switch is having a hard time running the game at 480p.

Avatar image for Sgt_Crow

@Packer1080: It's confirmed 720p/1080p in handheld/docked. So no, you haven't heard that.

Avatar image for lonewolf1044

@Packer1080: Probably true.

Avatar image for consolehaven

@timmyp1982: and yet the switch is selling like crazy right now. People love a mobile console.

Avatar image for lonewolf1044

@consolehaven: Yes they do but they must understand that the mobile side at this time is not as good as the console.

Avatar image for Packer1080

@consolehaven: The original Wii sold like crazy. Too bad nobody ever bought games for it.

Avatar image for chillingnaire

@Packer1080: sounds like ps4 and its exclusives

Avatar image for Packer1080

@chillingnaire: I have a PS4 Pro and gaming pc. Most of the games I care about will come out between the two systems.

Avatar image for consolehaven

@Packer1080: Which is a valid point. Most gaming ecosystems have enough content not to have to care about other gaming ecosystems. I am lucky to own an Xbox one x, switch, ps4 and 3DS. I've slowly lost interest in videogames and haven't had a session in almost 3 months now. That said, I could get rid of them all but one and never run out of things to play.

Avatar image for so_hai

I believe they announced it too early, and were over-confident of their project management.

Avatar image for NaturallyEvil

@timmyp1982: It could be, but why do they suddenly care now? It never worked well on the PS3 in the first place, and they still released it. So at From Software, the original release can be full of performance issues, but the cash-grab release on weaker hardware has to run well?

Avatar image for agramonte

Hopefully now more people will get BattleChasers Switch On May 15th

But really, why I never only have Nintendo hardware. You have a 6 year old port headlining the last 5 months and in the end even that gets delayed. Now stuck with the other 2 old ports in May at the insane price of $60.

Heading into 5th month of 2018 without a real AAA hit game on Switch

Avatar image for Packer1080

@agramonte: Hey at least Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers are coming out. They change so much between each game.

Avatar image for rawkstar007

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t this game originally announced for the Switch during the Nintendo Direct before it was confirmed for the other consoles? Just seems so odd to see it get delayed while the others release first now.

Avatar image for lonewolf1044

@og_gamerzzz: I agree and I do not see no reason to delay for the other consoles if the project is on schedule for those.

Avatar image for pcvirginrace

They couldn't get a stable 720p 25fps. More work

Avatar image for Keaze_

I wonder if From and Miyazaki had any idea how iconic Solaire would be and how instantaneously recognizable that one sentence would become.

Avatar image for videogameninja

How difficult is Dark Souls you say?

It's so difficult that they can't even announce a firm release date.

Avatar image for Keaze_

@videogameninja: I don't mean to be harsh but you should up your game because your punchlines are getting worse and worse.

Edit: Weaker and weaker*

2nd edit: feels like an MMO when you buy an account and have to copycat the other person's personality because it's instant ban if they learn that you bought the account.

Avatar image for videogameninja

@Keaze_: My punchlines are intended to be cringe worthy... kind of like all my comments.

It seems May was a little early to expect Solaire of Astora to Praise the Sun!

Avatar image for hughesyboozy

I had a feeling the Switch version would get delayed. I'm raging, delays happen all the time which is fine, but the day after it was meant to release I'm on a long flight and planned on playing it then to keep me occupied, oh well...

Avatar image for Marky360

Hopefully Wolfenstein 2 gets released in the interim.

Avatar image for j3diknightdave

little DSR on x1x... can't wait. I wonder if it will be 60FPS on the original ps4 and x1, I've only heard of the pro, and x1x having 60FPS (no need to mention pc) this won't be a issue for me, but it may suck for people that don't have a pro or a 1x. Regardless, Amiibos might not be big anymore and i won't be getting the switch version, but that ain't stopping me from picking up solaire.. Praise the sun!!!

p.s. console players better get that DLC too. 🙂
