Dark Souls 3 Chicken Wing Challenge Sounds Pretty Dangerous

The challenge is only available in the UK.

Starting on April 4, Dark Souls III publisher Bandai Namco will challenge people to eat 20 chicken wings as fast as they can. The wings sound pretty dangerous, considering you have to eat them while wearing protective gloves. If you feel like it's worth it, you could win a PS4, Dark Souls III Collector's Edition, and the Dark Souls III Prestige Edition.

No Caption Provided

UK restaurant MeatLiquor will serve the wings, which are covered in a quarter of a liter of chilli sauce--the sauce has been created specifically for this contest. And you aren't the only one required to wear protective gloves, either--the chef must also wear them in addition to a mask and goggles. If that doesn't deter you, you'll also need to sign a liability waiver before you start.

Anyone who participates wins an exclusive "I SURVIVED" the Dark Souls Wings Challenge t-shirt and is entered into the "Hall of Souls" leaderboard for their specific MeatLiquor restaurant. The fastest time from each restaurant wins a PS4 with a Dark Souls III Collector's Edition, while the fastest wing eater in the UK also scores the Prestige Edition, complete with a 40cm tall Lord of Cinder statue. The challenge runs until April 29.

If you'd rather not risk the hell that is stomach and bowel pain, you can just play Dark Souls III when it releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 12.

Will the words "you died" come up if you die during the challenge?

@TenraiSenshi: Yep, then you will get endless loading times as usually happens when playing from 5400 RPM Hard Disk on consoles.

Okay, I love hot food and all, but this sounds too insane.
I'll keep the contestants' stomachs in my thoughts.

Oh man are you fucking serious? You have to wear gloves? Bahaha! Whatever. I would destroy this. Wish I lived in the UK.

In these comments: people who don't know that "chili" is simply a classification of pepper (of which many can be incredibly potent) and not a specific species of pepper

Think of all those Lemmings who will be paying 150% more for the game, while the competitive Pigs will be selling their prize on eBay.

Don't give the UK another exclusive theme like they got with Bloodborne for getting plat please. Share that with the US and Japan this time around.

Pfffft screw the game. I'd eat those chicken wings just cause I was hungry and I love spicy food. Eat through the pain! lol

Edit: Also, I'd want a shirt that says "'murica" on it.

How could this possibly go wrong... :/

Avatar image for nathan08

@heqteur: Exactly. If you have to wear gloves to eat them then why in God's name would you put them in your mouth?

Avatar image for Zloth2

@nathan08: Nobody said the spice is the hard part. Maybe they give you stiff gloves, which make it incredibly hard to even pick up the wings.

It's a shame what people put in their body's for stupid things like this and publishers shouldn't be having contest's like this.I'm a gamer still i workout 5 days a week and eat healthy. When you play games as much as some of us do you need a healthier lifestyle publishers should know better than this crap.Still people can do what they want it's their body's best of luck to the people that do this

Avatar image for jyml8582

Avatar image for Zloth2

@jyml8582: Gamers don't do parties, so what does that matter? ;)

Avatar image for ltjohnnyrico

@jyml8582: Was thinking the exact same thing after reading that !!

Avatar image for wretch1d
Wretch1d

@flames325: yep i had a go at the worlds hottest pie (apparently), same deal sign a waiver etc, i thought it was a gimmick.....twas no gimmick, and after violently throwing up acid chilli barf in copious amounts of burning pain, i decided not to do that again, seriously its not about if you can handle the heat really (it is too) but its poison, can your body actually handle that, assuming this is a publisised contest im sure you will be fine though

Avatar image for nl_skipper
NL_Skipper

@flames325: Relax dude, chicken wings aren't poison, jeeze, it's good to be healthy and all but don't act like everyone doing this is a pathetic slob, just makes you look like a jerk.

Avatar image for heqteur
Heqteur

@nl_skipper: You might have missed the part where they say anyone from the customers to the chef has to wear protective gears to eat/serve those wings. I mean, did you even knew those were super hot spicy wings? The kind of which more than half people would probably spit fire right after just smelling them? But, eh, what do I know? And besides, those are only wings. How could that possibly hurt?

Avatar image for ltjohnnyrico
LTJohnnyRico

@heqteur: When cooking with certain chillies it is good practice to wear gloves and eye protection, simply because you do not want to get any particles in your eye, it will cause pretty severe irritation !! But spicy food isn't all bad for you !!

Avatar image for nl_skipper
NL_Skipper

@heqteur: That's standard practice when eating or preparing spicy food with your hands, it irritates the skin after a while but a persons mouth is a lot more hardy than their fingertips and lips. They did just say it was chili sauce afterall, and chili's are rather low on the scovill hotness scale, like medium-low hotness... and again, it's not poison, this is just Eddie loving the clickbait headlines, trying to get you excited lol.

If you don't like spicy food, then yea obviously this will be painful, but it you eat in regularly this probably isn't that bad, these are all standard safety precautions though, gloves, and a waver... gotta protect your arse from being sued these days.

Avatar image for jcharp

I'd be all over this if they had it here in the states. Chili sauce isn't THAT hot. And the gloves requirement is just a psychological thing. I did a challenge once where I had 5 minutes to eat 5 stuffed habeneros. I finished in less than three minutes. the waiter said he'd never seen anyone finish it so fast. I paid for it later though...

Avatar image for ninjaroach81
ninjaroach81

@jcharp: Depends on the type of chili sauce. Once you get up to the ghost pepper range, yeah, gloves do kind of become a requirement.

Avatar image for Vojtass
Vojtass

@jcharp: Gloves are required for people who have very sensitive skin for capsaicin i.e. active component of every pepper. Gloves are recommended for the cooks, who are dealing with very hot peppers. Their juice is very hard to remove from the skin - even if you will wash your hands, you can still feel hotness. It's important if you don't want to transfer hotness (via touch) on other food used in the kitchen.
