A new update for Dark Souls III is coming to all platforms later today, adjusting the performance of the Greatsword and making a number of fixes and other tuning tweaks, Bandai Namco has announced.

This patch adjusts the performance of the Greatsword, the Dancer's Enchanted Sword, and the Winged Knight Twinaxes, but no specific details were divulged. In terms of bug fixes, the update clears out a problem where the game blocked players from using multiple items at Road of Sacrifices, Farron Keep, and Cathedral of the Deep after they beat the game.

Other bugs are fixed as well, though they were not specified.

In addition to the changes listed below, Bandai Namco said it is aware of the problem on Xbox One related to Regulations. A fix is in the works, though no other details were shared.

It's also not stated if this Dark Souls III patch will offer any relief for the PC players experiencing crashing issues. There are workarounds available, but a fix does not yet appear to have been pushed out.

Dark Souls 3 1.04 Patch Notes:

  • Performance adjustment for "Greatsword"
  • Battle performance adjustment for "Dancer's Enchanted Sword," "Winged Knight Twinaxes"
  • Performance adjustment for "Soul's Greatsword," and "Farron Flashsword"
  • Fix for issue where multiple items become impossible to use at "Road of Sacrifices," "Farron Keep," "Cathedral of the Deep," after clearing the game.
  • General balance adjustments and bug fixes

Release Schedule:

  • PS4 - April 18 at 7 PM PST / 10 PM EST
  • Xbox One – April 18 between 5-8pm PST / 8-11 PM EST
  • PC (listed as 1.03.1) – April 18 at 2 AM PST / 5 AM EST

Dark Souls III was released in the west on April 12. The From Software-developed role-playing game got off to a strong start in the UK, where it climbed to the top of the charts and broke franchise records.

@Ravanofdarkness: I came here to complain about this as well. PS4 version is not undated at all and it's been over 32 hours since it was suppose to be live.

Halfway through NG+ on pc max settings 0 crashes solid 60 fps, worst thing i saw was a rat jumping into a wall and falling off the world seen that happen in all souls games. Roomate playing it on PS4 same thing no crashes no bugs. I dont get how people are having so many issues. I read about a guy saying hes using a gtx 970 and has to play in windowed mode with low setting to get 40 fps. Upgrade your computer or just get a PS4 :O its not the game thats as buggy as people claim. But shit happens i guess.

Will the patch remove the motion blur and fix the frame-pacing issues plaguing all platforms? I wonder.

Can we be rid of the awful auto-play videos yet, Gamespot?

Back on topic... Makes me glad I didn't have time to play this wknd -- should I just wait a few weeks for more patches, like I would with a Bethesda game? (Totally paid off to not start FO4 until mid-Dec, as one example.) I only played for about an hour after installing.

Also, Pyro's always my default starting character, and the starting loot options seemed a little "neutral" and lacking in mystery this time around. Any specific picks pro/con?

@Pyrosa: Life ring, everything else is garbage. I chose the branch like an idiot thinking it was like DkS2. Oh well, stuck with my decision anyway. Now I have like 5 of the things and they're useless.

@girlusocrazy: Fire gem can work really well. Since the imbue removes scaling but adds a large bit of fire damage it makes for a really good starter weapon.

@Mazoch: I've never infused a weapon because it removes scaling like you say, and then what if the enemy has strong defenses against fire? Then you're screwed unless you've got enough material to upgrade multiple weapons...

Never seemed worth it to me because I can't predict what enemies are weak/strong vs fire and what I'm coming up against.

You do get that frost sword early on tho but no twinkling titanite for a while

@girlusocrazy: The ring is kinda pointless at the start as it's % based (7% if I recall correctly) and you can always buy it quite early into the game.

The black bombs are far from garbage, although to a pyro it hasn't got that much use, unless you run out of FP.

Game still stutters like Porky Pig. I've mostly fixed it with Nvidia Control Panel, but it's not as smooth as it should be. Please patch it.

@Fartman7998: there must be something wrong with your install or you're just using under recommended requirements if it's giving you problems like you claim. since day 1 it has been a solid 60fps at 1440p with highest settings and some Crimson enhancements.

@elessarGObonzo: Not to be argumentative or anything, but the fact that you're playing on 1440p means you're probably way above the recommended requirements and shouldn't have any problems in theory anyway. I can play most any game (Witcher 3, for example) just fine on high settings and 1080p, so the game's performance must be its fault in some capacity. I've seen plenty other people with performance problems too. You may be onto something though, the stupid Steam pre-load thing likes to crap out at the last minute and not work properly. Other folks on the forums said their pre-loading was messed up too.

It's performing very well for me on PS4. The Halfway Fortress / Farron Keep / Crucifixion Woods etc running just as smooth as any other part of the game (on other platforms some are complaining about Blighttown-like performance). I haven't encountered any bugs or problems, a very well put together game. Thanks, From!

It seems kind of easy so far though. I don't think it's because I played a lot of Souls games... I barely died until about 15 hours in. I remember bosses and enemies being much more deadly and less forgiving in other entries. I've even been playing other Souls games again in anticipation before getting this one and they were as deadly as ever. In this game I'm getting through almost everything on the first try.

Currently been stuck on a boss all day yesterday (finally!) so maybe things will turn around from here. Top notch level design, great enemy and boss variety, just please make it harder. I wish I could start on NG+ right away or something.

I haven't found any illusory walls, are they just not in this game? Haven't seen any NPC invaders either.

@girlusocrazy: you must not have much life outside of games if you've already had time to beat this.

this is easier than any of the first 3 games though. all of the bosses so far are an easy dodge, hit, repeat cycle.it seemed they tried harder to make it so you couldn't use the same simple tactic on every boss in DS 1 & 2. catching & killing the crystal lizards is much easier this time too. i imagine the game has been toned down some to avoid the mass of crying people complaining about the difficulty. i've still only died 4 times, couple just from stupid mistakes like falling.

have found a few illusory walls and a couple illusory windows only ~20 hours in.

@girlusocrazy: Why are you asking From to make the game harder, and why are you doing it in a god damn Gamespot comment section? Stuck on a boss all day, and you want it to be harder? Get over yourself

@Beelze333: That's the only part I was dying at, the last 4 bosses and 16 hours of game time I died like 5 or 6 times. In any other souls it would have been a lot more challenging.

Looked at your post history. Very sad. You're trying so hard to crap on everyone. Looks like you need to get over yourself lol Hope you get some real confidence someday and find people who actually care about you. Remember if you ever need someone there's the boys town national hotline.

@girlusocrazy: I only comment on this crappy site when I feel like venting on failed abortions, and there's a lot of them here, including you. Seeing as how this game has the most challenging bosses in the series, it just looks like you want to brag so you can feel good about yourself. That's what happens with neglected children...they need attention. Not to mention you write directly to From Software to make the game more difficult in a Gamespot comment section. Your single remaining brain cell must be malfunctioning.

@Beelze333: Haha. Whatever it takes man.

No it's not a humblebrag it's probably just the high expectations I had for this. I'm still happy with the game though!

BTW From Software I know you're listening, Beelze333 tells me you read each GameSpot post! So please make another Bloodborne! Thanks!

I also beat that boss so I'm deleting my save and not playing until you make this babies game harder!
