Dark Reign's Journey

Dark Reign ships, with a quirky AI bug to boot.

Friday, Activision announced that its latest multiplayer real-time futuristic strategy title, Dark Reign: The Future of War is hitting the shelves of over 10,000 retail stores in the US and Canada. Activision is launching the game this week in 58 countries around the world as well.

The game centers around two armies, the Imperium army and the Freedom Guard, battling over interplanetary domination. To win the game, you must beat both armies.

Features for the game include customizable AI, and four-player Internet play.

The DR release probably wasn't as smooth as Activision might have hoped. It seems there's a bug in the game's Artificial Intelligence - when gamers set Dark Reign on its easiest level, they're actually playing the game on its medium setting; the medium setting is likewise its hardest level, and the expert setting actually makes the game its easiest.

A patch should be released soon to correct that problem, sources at Activision said.
