Now Playing: The Biggest TV Shows To Watch In 2019

It's more than two years since Netflix first announced development of a new show based on the classic '80s fantasy movie The Dark Crystal, and we finally know when it will be with us. The streaming giant has confirmed that Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will hit the service on August 30, and a new batch of images has been released.

The images will be instantly recognisable to anyone who has seen the 1982 film, which was written and co-directed by Muppets creator Jim Henson. Director Louis Leterrier told Entertainment Weekly that he was determined to use puppetry to create and animate the characters, rather than the CG you might expect in 2019. The results look very impressive--check them out below.

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will run for 10 episodes. It has a hugely impressive voicecast, which includes Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Jo, Nathalie Emmanuel, Mark Hamill, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Helena Bonham Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, and Alicia Vikander.

The official synopsis for the show reads: "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure: When three Gelfling discover the secret behind the Skeksis' power, they embark on a journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save the entire world."

The original movie was released in December 1982. It was only moderately successful at the time, but was praised by critics and has gone on to gain a cult following. For more on 2019's big upcoming TV shows, check out GameSpot's guide to the biggest TV shows to watch in 2019.
