Dark Cloud 2 is the Next PS2-on-PS4 Release

Level-5's classic RPG, Dark Cloud 2, will be available on PlayStation 4 from January 19 as part of Sony's ongoing initiative to re-release PS2 games.

The announcement was made on the PlayStation Blogcast, as reported by Gematsu. Dark Cloud 2 was originally released in 2002 in Japan and 2003 in western territories. The game was known in Europe as Dark Chronicle.

The last PS2 classic to be released on PS4 was Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. Also in the library are Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, PaRappa the Rapper 2, and Twisted Metal Black.

Sony has confirmed that The King of Fighters 2000 will be added, and Rockstar's Max Payne may also be on the way, though this has not confirmed.

PlayStation president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida previously said Sony will work "tirelessly" to release even more PS2 games for PS4 "on a regular basis." The company is also asking for your suggestions for which games should be added.

Yoshida also previously spoke out to defend the price point for the PS2 re-releases, which cost between $10-$15, saying the technology to implement PS4 features such as Trophies and Share requires significant investment.

"We are also able to add Trophies; some people really care about Trophies," he said. "So we can provide that. And it takes some time for our staff and QA and licensing and everything to bring back these games. So it takes us time and cost. So we felt that we should charge."
