Mythic Entertainment has announced that it will release a free expansion pack, Dark Age of Camelot: Foundations, in mid-June. Foundations is designed to add player housing to Mythic's popular online RPG and will be a free optional download for subscribers. Players will first claim a housing lot and can then buy a deed to one of several types of houses, whose appearances are customized for each of the game's three realms. Houses can be purchased either by individual players or by guilds, and the game's real-estate market is expected to have pricing that fluctuates according to demand, as in real life.

The houses can be furnished in a variety of ways, and players can showcase their weapons, trophies, and hunted prize animals on the walls. Walls may also be decorated with a selection of pictures, torches, and other art. In addition to being safe havens and meeting places, houses have practical purposes. Every house has a basement where trade tools can be set up to facilitate the practice of trades at home. Vaults may also be placed in basements and will hold up to 100 items.

Foundations--currently in closed beta testing--is one of several expansions planned for 2003. Another free expansion is planned for later in the year that will enhance and develop the online RPG's realm vs. realm combat system. The third expansion planned for 2003 will be a major retail expansion pack that will be released at the end of the year.

Dark Age of Camelot: Foundations will work with both the original Dark Age of Camelot and the Shrouded Isles expansion pack.
