Mythic Entertainment has announced Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles, the upcoming expansion pack for its popular online role-playing game, Dark Age of Camelot. The expansion will add a number of new features to the game, including new areas to explore for each of the game's three warring realms, new character classes, and three new playable races.

The add-on will also include significant graphical improvements through the use of DirectX 8.1 and version 4.0 of the NetImmerse 3D game engine. The new technology will improve the game's overall performance and support shadowing and have more spectacular spell effects, reflective surfaces, and other new effects.

Dark Age of Camelot is set in a medieval fantasy world. Players assume the role of a character who can grow in power through gaining experience and levels. Players can engage in a number of activities, such as exploring the gameworld, undertaking quests, fighting monsters, and taking part in realm-vs.-realm combat. The game was developed by Mythic and launched in North America in October. For more information about Dark Age of Camelot, take a look at our full review of the game.

According to Mythic, development of Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles started shortly after the successful launch of the original game, and the expansion is scheduled for release in late 2002. The company will also be demonstrating the game at the 2002 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles next week. We'll post more information about the expansion as it becomes available.
