Free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons MMO Neverwinter is coming to PlayStation 4, publisher Perfect World Entertainment announced today. The PS4 edition will be out this summer, though a specific release date was not mentioned.

Neverwinter's PS4 edition will be available to everyone; it does not require PlayStation Plus. By comparison, the already-available Xbox One version of the game does require Xbox Live Gold.

In a press release, Perfect World further explained that Neverwinter's PS4 edition comes with "optimized" controls that make use of the DualShock 4's touchpad and party chat.

To get a closer look at Neverwinter for PS4, check out the trailer above and some images in the gallery below.

Neverwinter's PS4 edition comes with all the content from the base game (eight classes and nine expansions), as well as the newest update, The Maze Engine.

In other Neverwinter news, Perfect World has announced the game's 10th expansion, Storm King's Thunder. It comes out for PC this August, with a release scheduled for Xbox One and PS4 at a later date. The expansion adds three new zones and characters like Catti-brie, Wulfgar, and Harshnag.

I'll try it out. I definitely want to support more MMOs coming to the console. Not sure how long I will stick with it though

This is a 5/10 game at best, with serious issues and a p2w problem. But, if you have absolutely nothing else to play, at all, a free game is a free game.

@frishter:Their community also leaves a lot to be desired. I asked about an account bank and everyone was like "You don't need one of those, you just mail the gear to your other character and hold it in a mule character". When I explained how stupid that was, the continued to harass and belittle me. When brought it up to the subreddit, same response, when I reported a guy for harassing me, the mod instead banned me. Then, when they finally added the account bank, it was like the 2nd coming.

The combat is so shallow it makes a kiddy pool seem like an ocean. It isn't very fun, as you just keep doing the same 3 moves as a combo. The game has so much wrong with it that it won't last long on PS4. I give it like 3 months.

Can be fun if you don't take it seriously, but frankly the company deceived paying customers multiple times, they ignore big issues for so long and the content isn't that good in the first place (it used to when it was first released, but then it became half-arsed). I'd also call it somewhat p2w considering BiS requires thousands of $$$ or being one of a small minority that grinds it out for a very long time. I wasted years playing this because it didn't live up to its potential. Shoddy studio.

Please forgive me if these are stupid questions, but I'm not familiar with how these "FREE to play" games work. I'm just trying to learn. Obviously, "FREE to play" sounds pretty self explanatory and I understand that partially, that is true. You can download it and play the game completely free of charge, BUT how much of the game do you actually get? Is it a 100% full game for free? I've heard people say that these things just drain your wallet because I'm order to actually play the game in its full glory, you have to spend over $100 in microtransactions. Buying in-game coins with real money is required, or using real money to unlock a key to the next level or something like that. My main question is, will I be able to download this game and not spend a penny, but still be able to fully enjoy the full story with all of the battles with access to all of the same things that everyone else does, or will I be completely obsolete and not able to get very far unless I empty my wallet?

@jayskoon93: Having played it on PC you will, but if you get any chests you will be required to buy a key to open them. You want a mount you gotta pay for it. Unless those have changed you have to spend money to get some nice features out of the game but you can play it without spending a dime you just won't be able to keep up for a while.

it would be great if they could make this cross platform pay between PC, PS4 and Xbox one or just Xbox one and PS4

That's pretty cool. Is this any good? I wouldn't mind casually getting involved with an MMO with a low (no) cost of entry like this

Nice. And it's freely available to try. Good strategy.
