Daisy Ridley Reflects On Star Wars Career, Says She Would Come Back

The actress who played Rey in the new trilogy loved her time in the series and has a never-say-never attitude about coming back.

Daisy Ridley played Rey in the new Star Wars trilogy, but the character's arc has come to a close and the new Star Wars films will move on without her. But in the future, would Ridley be open to revisiting the character some day or re-joining the Star Wars universe in another way? She responded to this in the April 2021 issue of Empire, leaving the door open for it to happen.

While Rey is probably finished "for now," she reflected, Ridley has a "never say never" attitude toward the future. Ridley said she was floored to see Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian, and she could potentially see Rey coming back in the future as well in some capacity.

"I mean, never say never," she said.

Ridley said she watched all the Harry Potter movies again over Christmas and then saw Ron Weasley actor Rupert Grint comment that he would be open to playing Ron again. Ridley said she feels similarly about Rey.

"I'm always open to a revisit," she said of Star Wars. "But also the beautiful thing is it's this wonderful, huge universe with all of these stories that have yet to be told. I think there's a lot of cool things to be made before any potential revisit."

Speaking more generally about her time making Star Wars films, Ridley said she had a wonderful time making them, even if she's saying goodbye to Rey for now.

"I don't think it'll ever feel properly like goodbye because it's such a wonderful little web of people. It's a really nice club to be a part of. Plus, I had such a good time. I loved my experience. In terms of revisiting the character, I think that's a bye-bye for now," she said.

Ridley says she remains in touch with the other stars of the newer Star Wars films--including John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and director JJ Abrams. When they caught up most recently, they talked about the TV show Drag Race, Ridley said.

Ridley's response is different from Isaac and Boyega. Isaac has said he will only come back to Star Wars for the money, while Boyega has said he has no interest in playing Finn again.

Ridley's next movie is Chaos Walking from director Doug Liman and co-starring Spider-Man's Tom Holland. It debuts on March 5.

Despite starring in giant blockbusters, Ridley said she is open to joining the cast for any movie with a good enough script. "I'm sort of open to whatever cool stuff comes my way. I mean, being an actor is f**king great," she said.
