Cyberpunk 2077 Preorder Guide: New Release Date And Everything To Know Before Preordering

Looking to preorder Cyberpunk 2077? CD Projekt Red's new RPG is on sale for PS4, Xbox One, and PC and comes with some pretty sweet preorder bonuses.

70 Comments

Cyberpunk 2077 is looking to be the biggest game of 2020. Developer CD Projekt Red (creators of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt) are moving from the past to the future, taking the choice-driven storytelling, strong characters, and evocative world-building CDPR is known and infusing them with the world created by Mike Pondsmith. It has some serious star power behind it, too--Keanu Reeves stars as Johnny Silverhand, Grimes and Run the Jewels are contributing songs to the soundtrack, and the studio behind Promare is making a Cyberpunk 2077 anime with Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka doing the score.

The leadup to launch has been somewhat tumultuous, as the game has seen a few delays. Right now, however, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to finally release on December 10 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You'll also be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but the enhanced next-gen upgrades and dedicated editions are coming later. Keep in mind that if you order a digital next-gen console (the Series S or PS5 Digital), you won't be able to play your physical copy of Cyberpunk 2077 on it.

We recently got the chance to go hands-on with Cyberpunk 2077 and play some of the game's early missions and side quests. Be sure to check out senior editor Tamoor Hussain's early impressions of Cyberpunk 2077 after spending four hours in Night City.

The game is based on Mike Pondsmith's tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020, so the 2020 release date makes total sense. However, the game itself is set 57 years later in the futuristic android-filled world of Night City, where android augmentations are an integral part of people's lives. There looks to be plenty of deep customization and lots of options when it comes to first-person combat. The team has confirmed Cyberpunk 2020 will not have microtransactions, will be DRM-free on PC, and have DLC similar in size to Wild Hunt.

Interested in picking up a copy ahead of launch? We've got all the details where you can preorder Cyberpunk 2077 down below. Plus, check out our roundup of all the best Cyberpunk 2077 merchandise being released around the game--there's a ton of it. We've included some of the game's action figures (including the Keanu Reeves one) below.

Cyberpunk 2077 comes with a few general preorder bonuses, no matter which retailer you buy from. These include a copy of the original score, a Cyberpunk 2020 sourcebook, an art booklet, desktop and mobile wallpapers, and a digital comic.

You're also directly supporting the developers of Cyberpunk 2077 when you buy from GOG, as all proceeds go to CD Projekt Group.

GameStop has a preorder bonus for PowerUp Rewards members, who will receive $20 Game Coin (store credit) with their purchase. When picking up the game during launch week, Pro members will get an extra $10, while those on the free Player tier will receive an extra $5. The main thing to know bf pre-ordering 2077 is that it will be average at best--a huge disappointment after literally years of buildup, hype, and excitement. There will be nothing horrible about it, but will do nothing new or innovative. The characters will be one-dimensional and not very interesting. The world, while intricate and sometimes beautiful to look at, will be ultimately lifeless and shallow. The missions? Usual fetch quests of go to A and kill or kidnap B and bring back C, etc.

"Too bad," reviewers will write, "because Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to be a bright spot in an otherwise dismal year but...ended up not shining quite enough. 6/10"

I'm looking forward to buying this game in about a year, after it has been patched several times & the mod community has corrected many of the vanilla design decisions ;-)

Really looking forward to this and now that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has been confirmed to be 4K 60FPS on XseX I’ll be picking that up too.

The Medium, The Gunk and The Ascent I’ll definitely check out as well as there on Gamepass.

There’s been no word of Valhalla on ps5 running at 4K 60. I think that’s going to be more common this gen too just like how 1X made 4K more than ps4pro 1440p.

There’s no doubt XseX is better than ps5. The hardware and software of both Xbox’s is better.

It just is.

Man I want that CE edition..

I don't want the statue though as I don't have room for those anymore..

(I did my time w/ CE statues dating back to early 2000's w/ CE editions.)

The box and stickers seem cool as hell & I think I put $5 on CyberPunk @ Gamestop

b4 We were sent to house arrest... I have no idea how i'll get the game if we're still on Lock.

Or my cool medallion... I got that cool medallion for Witcher3 from gamestop. I like It!!

**I like to sneak a gaming sticker on the bac of my mother in-law & sister in-laws cars.

My mother in-laws BMW has the Gears of War sticker that came with Gears 2 I think.

She has no idea what it is ;)

The key is too only put 1.

@everson_rm: they need more time to license a ton of crappy items such as funko pups, nendroids, tee shirts, stickers, statues etc...

fanboys will get as much of these sh*tty useless items.

i never did get into witchers series, i know nobody's perfect, the world is pretty but the character and the story never did appeal me.

i bought the 1&2 bundle for 6 or 7 bucks through a steam sale, 2 was a nice game with crappys mechanics such as hit the button as fast you can or hit a button at right time to esquive or parry.

as an old gamer, began with pong on a bootleg version of the odyssey, i played the majority of published games, exept for genres i did'nt like such as sports, dance but name anything else, it got a fat chance i played it.

they did'nt invent the "when it's done", it was a blizzard thing at the moment of the starcraft release long before they sold their soul to activision.

they skipped the x-mas to finish and polish, what publisher will do such a thing today??

i dont know if i will enjoy cyberpunk but there is no way i buy a game without getting a release date or some demo.

with the backlog of games i really enjoy and (i'm ready to accept any of the sh*tload of insults i will get) and some games i'm waiting such as asscreed valhalla or this year c.o.d. if it's really set during cold war, i can easy wait to try it one way or other ;) or wait for the reviews, a thing time did have learned me.

for the the things such as collector editions with a medallion, statue, sticker or anything, i just have to say "thanks, but no thanks".

one more time did'nt say the game will be bad or broken at launch but in more than 35 years of gaming, i got burned more than once.

If any games warrent a pre order it might be something from CDProjeKt, however, i normally wait for all DLC, expansion packs to be released before ordering RPG's.

@nyran125tk: im with you & so is MOST of the normies.

But AGREED CDPR is the exception..

~Ironic was that years ago anything Lucasarts StarWars was a guaranteed hit..

Before the Dark Times...

*Obsidian was also a always worthy trusted developer but the Outter WOrlds ended up being total lame nonsense.. Gamepass saved them from total disgrace...

Respawn & Dice are no longer themselves!

And Bioware is the absolute worst of em all..

They haven't made a good game Since DragonAge 1 or MassEffect2.

Actually ME2 only had 'good' gameplay'. The story was average for sure.

No where near the story of ME1 or Dragon Age or KOTOR etc..

~Bungie is the wildcard..Im curious to see how they rebound from the Activision breakup..

I left Destiny2 right befor ethe 1st expansion 'Osiris' dropped and have been wanting to go back but no idea what version to get etc..Too confusing for even me. Someone who follows gaming everything everyday...

Disclaimernryan,,this was just me sharing my opinion bout Developers w/ you,,NOT a history lesson...Im sure you knew this about all these devs mentioned..

No arrogance intended Bro...

@pyper: Me too,,,,,I pre ordered 'Star Wars EmpireAtWar from Gamestop in 2006 and got this AMAZING little 4" Deathstar on a tiny stand that has the button that activates the lightup sound. It started a BAD trend for me that lasted until about 5 years ago when I was burned badly with NoMansSky...

All because I had to have whatever physical trinket they offered...

Witcher3 gave a cool medallion of the Wolf.

~~~My all-time favorite was DeadIsland Riptides CE edition.
It was only $10 more and the game was already discounted to $40 because it sucked(we didn't know this then, but the developers sure did)
That DeadIsland suitcase was so awesome that I got a second one from ebay for $5.
It has served as my passenger seat utility box...
check out how awesome this thing is Dude...
Not the style or graphics of the suitcase but the size and utility potential of it...
Pffft...they want pre-orders for a game they not only have no idea of when it'll be released, but also refused to show potential customers actual game play of, choosing rather to do one of those stupid press only private showings? Funny way of trying to entice anyone other than the hardest of the hardcore CDPR fanatics to pre-order.
Oh, well...let the press pre-order then, since they're the ones chosen to show it to. Not getting any money from me until after launch for that one.
Preordering in the digital age is machiavellian absurdity. Unless you just gotta have the 20c trinkets that you pay the extra $40 for.
I swore off on pre-orders after getting ridiculously hyped for Arkham Knight. Got a new gaming PC rig instead of a console. Pre-ordered the special edition with the season pass. And that, of course, turned out to be total crap in nearly every definition. Game itself was a disappointment. The DLC was disappointing (couldn't even use most of the Batmobile skins in the main game). The launch was a massive debacle and the game still crashes on me from time to time when I play it.
But...then there was The Witcher 3, which blew me away like no AAA game has done in recent memory. The character and world building was phenomenal. But the big thing was how CD Projeckt Red treated the fans. It was DRM free if you wanted the option (through GoG). They gave away free DLC that any other company would've made you pay up the nose for. The expansion packs were reasonably priced and again, any other company would've charged full price as if they were a new game. They've gone out of their way to fix bugs in the game.
And frankly, even though the cyberpunk genre isn't my favourite, it's because of all this that I'm still tempted to pre-order Cyperpunk 2077. Not just because I think it'll be a high-quality game, but because of how CD Projeckt Red has treated their fanbase. Probably pre-order it on Steam. Though maybe GoG given the recent debacles with Steam and Valve.
Either way, I'll at least wait to see some actual gameplay before I decide for sure.
@NorseLax09: It looks phenomenal. It's a fully-realized, incredibly detailed world. As I expected, of course. I also like that it's light on cutscenes and that a lot of character interactions happen in real-time.
The gameplay...hasn't sold me yet. I like the breakable environments, but I hope there's more to the action than just duck-and-cover gun play. For example, one thing I liked about The Witcher 3 was having non-violent solutions like using the Axii sign. Or, say, in Fallout New Vegas, where you can hack security systems or bots to do the dirty work for me. I'd like to see more of that.
Still, it has my attention for sure.
WTF? This game doesn't even have a release date. There's been a "behind closed doors" demo but we know nothing about it. Why would there be pre-orders at this stage?
For anyone willing to give them money at this early stage, I have a triangle-shaped money making opportunity I'd love to tell you about.
@bbq_R0ADK1LL: I was thinking the same thing. It'd be one thing if we got an inkling of a release date, like the 2019/spring 2019 projections we saw for some games (though even then I don't see the point of preordering), but for all we know this game could be 1, 2, possibly 3 years away. Why would anyone even be thinking about preordering the game at this point let alone going out a putting money down.
