Now Playing: GS News Update: Cyberpunk 2077 Not Coming to E3, But Another Game From Witcher Dev Might Be

With E3 2016 right around the corner, The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red has now confirmed that its upcoming dystopian RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will not be at the show.

"We still have a lot of work to do with Cyberpunk," CD Projekt Red boss Marcin Iwinski told Eurogamer. "It might happen that we will be at E3 and we will show something at E3, but I just want to make it clear it's not Cyberpunk."

What might the mystery game be? It could be the unannounced title that CD Projekt Red first talked about earlier this year. This game, expected to launch or at least be discussed in 2016, is described as a "new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio."

Asked if it's this game that CD Projekt Red will show at E3, Iwinski said, "We will see." The site also pressed about whether not this game was related to the Witcher series. "Time will tell," Iwinski said.

Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to launch sometime in the 2017-2021 window. Don't expect to see more of it until CD Projekt Red can prepare an impressive showcase for it.

"Right now it's the end of talking about Cyberpunk until we can go out there and show stuff and say, 'Hey, here it is,' because that's how we do games," Iwinski said. "There is too much talking about what it possibly could be, and how big, and...

"When we show it, we should show it and explain it. So I'm going to have people not read anything about Cyberpunk probably for the next... time, whatever the time will be."

The next release for CD Projekt Red is this month's Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It is definitely the final expansion for the celebrated RPG.

2017-2021?? I not sure how feel about that Hype is never good for game or long dev windows, then again Witcher games are all great

I'd love it if CD Projekt Red started releasing some small team indie games.

Don't let the teams inflate too much and keep focus on what matters.

@dexda: I dunno, CDPR already has an "inflated" team. It's huge, it's more than twice(IIRC it's A LOT more than twice) what bethesda has on their games, yet it has a fraction the income per games. And clearly, it worked out great for TW3. They have a lot of liberty in recruitment being independent, and all the talent wants to work with them, so the quality doesn't drop from recruiting. What I'm trying to say is, CDPR is probably already as big as it can be with the money they have, which is commendable, not a bad thing

@hyttenhoof: That was my point. They need to stop growing and keep their teams smaller.

Yeah but Bethesda's games are going to shit in recent years. From how Fallout 4 turned out they could afford a few more people working on it. Or at least someone who know how to actually write.

Fallout and Elder Scrolls sells on brand recognition and hype alone. Which doesn't correlate with quality. As seen by other franchises like COD. Which is also terrible and still manages to sell millions every year.

I've always pre-ordered Bethesda's games. I won't be in future.

I think the new game is a mobile game and maybe even a card game, gwent? hmm

@adro191: This would be well received, I think.

This is the correct approach. All too often we get "new game / new movie fatigue" long before the titles are released. Ex: I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Overwatch Beta, but by the time Cap3 & OW were released, I was already half-tired of both.

There's just a non-stop stream of daily updates about minutae... I much prefer the "Bethesda model", where they keep quiet until a few months prior to launch.

Or maybe I should just stop reading Gamespot and IGN. ;)

If their plan is really to put all their games on both Xbox and PC I still fail to see all that many benefits to this approach. The more iterative design and release steps make console gaming much more expensive so at that point I'd just recommend people get a gaming PC and get a much better experience.

@Shunten: I think their plan may be to put all their games on Xbox, PC AND PS4. Maybe not?

@Pyrosa: I'm pretty sure it's a game where you have a character that watches another character play video games on an intertube site while talking in silly voices.

Sounds like they have a mobile game in the works. No surprise, lots of potential money there.

@immortality20: They already launched a mobile game last year, and it already failed.

Why you do this CDPR? Why you make me sad?

C'mon, before we're old. Er.

Hopefully they've decided against what they said and they will make another expansion for TW3. One can dream.
