Now Playing: Cyberpunk 2077 Is Already Completely Playable Start To Finish - GS News Update

CD Projekt Red has been developing Cyberpunk 2077 for the past six years, as you might be able to guess from a look at its impressive gameplay demo. Although the developer has stated that there's more work to be done on the action RPG, the game is already playable from start to finish.

In an interview with Engadget, Cyberpunk 2077 producer Richard Borzymowski said the game still doesn't have all of its assets, and the fixes for the bugs that were discovered in playtesting haven't been implemented yet. However, you can play through the entire game and see the story unfold, which Borzymowski says is important for finishing the game's development. "[Playing through the game] gives you the answers to all of your doubts," he said. "It just feels great."

Cyberpunk 2077 just had a big showing at Gamescom 2018. CD Projekt Red released new screens of the RPG that provide greater context for the game's world and also tease a mystery for people to solve. Prior to that, we were able to sit down with Borzymowski and delve into Cyberpunk 2077's gameplay, as well as the title's emphasis on choice and personal freedom. That was followed by a mysterious Twitch stream that ultimately led to the reveal of the gameplay demo.

CD Projekt Red has been keeping most details concerning Cyberpunk 2077 close to the chest, but what we've seen so far has left us excited about the game. Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't have a release window yet, but we know the game is coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Build the groundwork and then polish around it? I'm no game developer, but this seems unorthodox and probably a great idea. Thankfully CDPR has this kind of time flexibility, because most AAA studios don't.

2077 = No Man's Sky?

@attirex: Maybe if they released it now in it's mostly unfinished state, yeah. Just remember that NMS 2018 is actually a great game now. But CDPR won't release an unfinished game because they don't have corporate bigwigs hurrying them up.

@KahnArtizt:

Sounds like a long kahn.

AHAHAHAHA! Get it?

Long con/kahn...?

Most publishers nowadays would have already released the game at this point. Good thing they're not dependant on any big publisher telling them what to do.

@Atzenkiller: I'm telling y'all....for all the rumor that next gen is 2020, makes a lot more sense, if things are at this point that we hear of the PS5/X2 in March, April, we spend E3 getting "Hey, you know all those games we talked about last year? Yeah, those. Launch titles, everything available holiday 2019."

These games are too close for that NOT to be next year.

The knock on last gen was that the launch title line up was non existent. If this is a launch title? (And everything else we saw at E3 with no release dates?)

They ain't gonna make last gen's mistake again. If this game is playable now, I bet we actually DO play it December 2019.

On a next gen console.

Thats great, but all they need to do to really finish it and send it to retailers both physical and digital copies will still take more than a year.

@jamesbr27: Printing discs and sending them to retailers usually happens when the game goes "gold", which is uaually about a month or so before releasing. Where did you get a year from?

"Already playable from start to finish" but apparently still not ready to be viewed publicly? Yeah, CDPR. This is getting old. And now Amazon is accepting pre-orders for the game? LOL. Not me. No thanks, no way.

Playable from start to finish doesn't mean the side content has been added....

Take all the time you guys not just need, but want! Games today, not just testing wise but with content as well, are far too rushed.

The thing is though the game maybe playable from beginning to end but a lot of that could still be block outs and unfinished models etc.

@gamingdevil800: Sounds like the game is on alpha stage, Monkey. The circumstances should be obvious to anyone and everyone. So, your dumb elaboration wasn't required. 😒
