Cyberpunk 2077 Flying Mod Lets You Soar Among The Skyscrapers Of Night City

A new mod for Cyberpunk 2077 allows you to see the city from an airborne perspective, but watch out for those bugs.

Modders have been working overtime to crack open Cyberpunk 2077 since its release, and they've produced some pretty interesting work. However, NexusGuy999's Freefly mod might be the most impressive yet, allowing your V to take to the skies over Night City like never before. Considering the game inexplicably lacks Blade Runner-esque flying cars, it's quite a feat.

The Freefly mod works a little like "no-clip" cheats in first-person shooter games, or the photo modes in games like God of War or The Last of Us 2. You zoom around with WASD, and you can go up or down by looking in that direction and holding forward. However, since the game isn't really designed with flight in mind, you'll find yourself going inside a building, and the framerate is a bit jittery throughout.

Cyberpunk has received a couple of big mods in the past few weeks, most notably a third-person mod by the user sarunama. Much like the Freefly mod, the third-person angle can really mess with the game, and it's more of a proof of concept than a valid way to play the game. There's also a mod that allows you to change your hairstyle after character creation, which is one of the game's many strange omissions.

Cyberpunk 2077 is pretty buggy even when you play it without modifications, so be careful with these mods. The game's subpar performance on last-gen consoles has triggered much controversy. Though the game sold 13 million copies at launch, the company is now facing a class-action lawsuit after a massive stock drop that reportedly cost its founders $1 billion in wealth. Most recently, CD Projekt Red publicly refuted a viral rumor that suggested that new content was going to be added in June 2021 as part of a "No Man's Sky-style comeback."
