Crysis Remastered was supposed to debut its gameplay reveal trailer today. Instead, Crytek announced that the remaster has been delayed by "a few weeks" from its original July 23 date after a leaked gameplay trailer resulted in some upset fans. Several YouTube commenters joked that Crytek had remastered "the console version" of the famously taxing PC game.

"The features you're looking forward to are already set, but we want to take the time on polishing the game," a portion of the statement reads. "You might be aware of the leak yesterday, and we want you to know: we've seen all the reactions - the good and the bad - and we're listening!"

A previous store description for the game stated that it would have "remastered graphics optimized for a new generation of hardware." What exactly that means remains to be seen, as it's unclear what hardware the leaked trailer was running on. However, Crysis Remastered does represent the first time that the Crysis series has come to the Nintendo Switch.

The original Crysis was considered a landmark technical achievement on its original release in 2007, with only the most high-spec gaming PCs able to handle it on its highest settings. It even led to the game becoming a bit of a meme, with players joking that not even supercomputers could run Crysis. In our Crysis review, our critic gave it a 9.5/10: "If you put it all together, Crysis is just remarkable. This is a game that pushes the envelope in terms of both technology and gameplay and does so with aplomb. Crysis raises the expectations for every shooter to follow when it comes to graphics, interactivity, environments, immersiveness, AI, and gameplay. Quite simply, Crysis represents the first-person shooter at its finest, most evolved form."
