Crysis and Crysis 2 PC multiplayer going offline at the end of the month

Crytek confirms you won't be able to play both games online after May 31 as a result of GameSpy's shutdown.

If you want to play the PC versions of Crysis and Crysis 2 online, you'll need to get moving. Developer Crytek announced in the game's forums that as a result of the closure of GameSpy's online matching client, the multiplayer modes for both games will no longer be playable after May 31. The console versions are unaffected, and neither is Crysis 3.

"As of May 31 this year, the multiplayer modes in Crysis and Crysis 2 for PC will no longer be playable," Crytek said. "The single-player campaigns in both games are unaffected by this transition."

"We'd like to thank everyone who has taken up arms in Crysis and Crysis 2's multiplayer modes in the last few years, and apologize to the small but dedicated community of PC players who are still actively competing against one another," Crytek added.

Beyond categorizing the PC community as "small," Crytek did not reveal a specific figure for just how many people continue to play Crysis and Crysis 2 to this day. GameSpy's forthcoming shutdown is affecting many games, though one publisher--Electronic Arts--has pledged to find other means to keep old Battlefield games alive after May 31.

Crytek have probably responded the way they did because they'd rather having people playing on their new "F2P" (Translation: P2W) shooter in Warface. It is a shame but I expected no less from such a disgusting company, Crytek turned their back on the Crysis fanbase a long time ago.

No one was playing multiplayer anyway. Though I loved to play MP on original Crysis, there was only a selection of like 5 server. 4 out of 5 of those servers had blatant cheaters in it.

MP was dead in Crysis a long time ago.

Why can't EA do something here? They already saved the old BF games. How about saving these? Also with these two games is there LAN or some other way to set up MP?

I don't care about multi-player. I am a loner afk and online (which is a myth that loners have friends online). I don't get the hype about multiplayer.

Only Story Mode, only hardcore!

Hey guys! If you think this is wrong and want EA / Crytek to reconsider this move. Why sign this petition to show them that these kind of things are unacceptable!

<< LINK REMOVED >>

As << LINK REMOVED >> says, Crysis2 only came out a few years ago and already they're going to drop one of it's main features!

<< LINK REMOVED >> are happy to migrate multiplayer support the Battlefied series, so why can't the same be done for Crysis?

This is what happens when they don't let you run your own servers.

Never accept an online shooter that doesn't let people run their own servers.

I remember when MPlayer shut down, and people still play Quake III Arena today. Gamespy shutting down wont mean much either as PC games can be hosted on a new master server. If people are still interested in playing multi-player in a game for PC then there will be multi-player for it. Thats one of the many benefits of PC gaming. + there are already VPN servers that work with the LAN option.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Also a lot of the older games do allow you to just type in a server address directly. This will keep the most dedicated fans playing, but losing the server browser means most of the players will not put forth the effort, not have any clue how to find servers or what happened, etc.

I don't recall if Crysis or Crysis 2 had direct IP for internet play. As you say there are LAN options, but that's even more effort and so even more players won't bother.

As long as they patch the Battlefield games, who cares about Crysis anymore...I love the 1st one, the singleplayer, but can't say the same about Crysis 2 and 3.

The original Crysis had LAN support. So I'm guessing it will no time until modders figure something out.

I am actually glad, since I haven't played either yet (sitting unplayed in my Steam library) and getting rid of multiplayer makes for 2 less games for me to get sucked into beyond the 1P campaign. After all the hundreds of hours unintentionally lost to ME3 multiplayer, this is good for me.

@YearoftheSnake5 Same, probably because crysis 2 had absolutely nothing to do with crysis 1 and didn't pick up where it left off at all. I didn't even play crysis 3 at all, I just straight up skipped it lol.

I wish they incorporate Lan play in their games like they did with D1 all you had to do was find their addresses. However, it does not bother me because I do not play multiplayer games much.

EA doesn't host Titanfall servers, Microsoft does. That being said, it is a safe bet the servers will stay up for the full life of the console as you cannot name a Microsoft hosted game that has lost online ability on the 360 (besides 1 vs 100).
