Crysis and Crysis 2 PC multiplayer going offline at the end of the month

Crytek confirms you won't be able to play both games online after May 31 as a result of GameSpy's shutdown.

If you want to play the PC versions of Crysis and Crysis 2 online, you'll need to get moving. Developer Crytek announced in the game's forums that as a result of the closure of GameSpy's online matching client, the multiplayer modes for both games will no longer be playable after May 31. The console versions are unaffected, and neither is Crysis 3.

"As of May 31 this year, the multiplayer modes in Crysis and Crysis 2 for PC will no longer be playable," Crytek said. "The single-player campaigns in both games are unaffected by this transition."

"We'd like to thank everyone who has taken up arms in Crysis and Crysis 2's multiplayer modes in the last few years, and apologize to the small but dedicated community of PC players who are still actively competing against one another," Crytek added.

Beyond categorizing the PC community as "small," Crytek did not reveal a specific figure for just how many people continue to play Crysis and Crysis 2 to this day. GameSpy's forthcoming shutdown is affecting many games, though one publisher--Electronic Arts--has pledged to find other means to keep old Battlefield games alive after May 31.

Hello to all Crysis lovers and fans. The new Crysis Multiplayer patch who will work without GameSpy becomes soon in read and watch new youtube GermanCrysis trailer
I am not from Rome , but I wish to screaming: "AVE GERMANY , AVE CRYTEK , AVE CRYSIS" :)

Avatar image for loopy_101

Crytek have probably responded the way they did because they'd rather having people playing on their new "F2P" (Translation: P2W) shooter in Warface. It is a shame but I expected no less from such a disgusting company, Crytek turned their back on the Crysis fanbase a long time ago.

Also halo CE on the PC will suffer from this :((((

What about Crysis Wars ?

Avatar image for quakke

Haha, eventhough the games are horrible, FAIL. You just failed because Quake is 1996 and people still playing it ONLINE. Come on crash, come on here already..

Avatar image for qiplayer

you call this horrible?

Avatar image for fillup0

Every other dev "We'll find other means so you can still play"

Crytek: "CBA M8 LOL"

Come on now, Crysis 1 had incredible multiplayer!

No one was playing multiplayer anyway. Though I loved to play MP on original Crysis, there was only a selection of like 5 server. 4 out of 5 of those servers had blatant cheaters in it.

MP was dead in Crysis a long time ago.

Avatar image for devilzzz1983

Why can't EA do something here? They already saved the old BF games. How about saving these? Also with these two games is there LAN or some other way to set up MP?

Avatar image for thehikki

I don't care about multi-player. I am a loner afk and online (which is a myth that loners have friends online). I don't get the hype about multiplayer.

Only Story Mode, only hardcore!

I think the 3 people who still play Crysis multiplayer and Crysis 2 multiplayer will be pissed.

Avatar image for gamerpetitions

Hey guys! If you think this is wrong and want EA / Crytek to reconsider this move. Why sign this petition to show them that these kind of things are unacceptable!

As << LINK REMOVED >> says, Crysis2 only came out a few years ago and already they're going to drop one of it's main features!

<< LINK REMOVED >> are happy to migrate multiplayer support the Battlefied series, so why can't the same be done for Crysis?

Avatar image for Thanatos2k

This is what happens when they don't let you run your own servers.

Never accept an online shooter that doesn't let people run their own servers.

Avatar image for cynicoren

<< LINK REMOVED >> , Couldn't agree more. Hate the game matching with Max Payne 3.

Avatar image for NikIvRu

Wow.... Crysis 2 came out in 2011 and already you can't get the full experience....

Avatar image for The-Neon-Seal

Multiplayer on Crysis 2 sucks anyway.

Avatar image for Ripper_TV

<< LINK REMOVED >> Nope. It's one of the best in business.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> i agree with u bro, its very cool ^^

I remember when MPlayer shut down, and people still play Quake III Arena today. Gamespy shutting down wont mean much either as PC games can be hosted on a new master server. If people are still interested in playing multi-player in a game for PC then there will be multi-player for it. Thats one of the many benefits of PC gaming. + there are already VPN servers that work with the LAN option.

Avatar image for hystavito

<< LINK REMOVED >> Also a lot of the older games do allow you to just type in a server address directly. This will keep the most dedicated fans playing, but losing the server browser means most of the players will not put forth the effort, not have any clue how to find servers or what happened, etc.

I don't recall if Crysis or Crysis 2 had direct IP for internet play. As you say there are LAN options, but that's even more effort and so even more players won't bother.

Avatar image for Mommas_b_o_y

i'm pretty sure you could still play it on gameranger or another program like it

server crysis

I haven't played Crysis online since the multiplayer beta back in 07.

All things must come to an end.

As long as they patch the Battlefield games, who cares about Crysis anymore...I love the 1st one, the singleplayer, but can't say the same about Crysis 2 and 3.

Avatar image for nedzo1

<< LINK REMOVED >> And when they stop patching BF games there are alternatives to that such as Project Rome for BFBC2 and ZLOFENIKS for BF3.

Avatar image for deactivated-5b9a2840dcb79

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Thanks for the info

Avatar image for nedzo1

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Ye no problem as long as it helps someone.

Avatar image for hystavito

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Thanks for mentioning those, I hadn't heard of them. I don't actually play either game anymore, but still cool that people are reverse engineering the servers.

Avatar image for GSyygeniobastardoyyGS

I wish I'd never played Crysis if I were to see this day.

Avatar image for deactivated-597794cd74015

The original Crysis had LAN support. So I'm guessing it will no time until modders figure something out.

Avatar image for playstationzone

well if you have ps3 and xbox360 still play this game online .

Avatar image for digishah

<< LINK REMOVED >> I don't feel too bad about it, at least I'm not paying $60 a year for it...

Avatar image for spartanx169x

Does anybody know if Gamespy runs the servers for the console versions?

Avatar image for RT-XD

Ahh the good days of Crysis...real shame about the series...

Game rental shop closing. Move on to the next rental.

Avatar image for sieg6529

I am actually glad, since I haven't played either yet (sitting unplayed in my Steam library) and getting rid of multiplayer makes for 2 less games for me to get sucked into beyond the 1P campaign. After all the hundreds of hours unintentionally lost to ME3 multiplayer, this is good for me.

Avatar image for YearoftheSnake5

Crysis is awesome, but I couldn't get into the sequels.

Avatar image for Shelledfade1

@YearoftheSnake5 Same, probably because crysis 2 had absolutely nothing to do with crysis 1 and didn't pick up where it left off at all. I didn't even play crysis 3 at all, I just straight up skipped it lol.

Avatar image for lonewolf1044

I wish they incorporate Lan play in their games like they did with D1 all you had to do was find their addresses. However, it does not bother me because I do not play multiplayer games much.

When EA will stop services for Titanfall in 2 years, will they give everyones their money back ?

Avatar image for dlCHIEF58

EA doesn't host Titanfall servers, Microsoft does. That being said, it is a safe bet the servers will stay up for the full life of the console as you cannot name a Microsoft hosted game that has lost online ability on the 360 (besides 1 vs 100).

Avatar image for matea88

<< LINK REMOVED >> If you think that will happen, then you are dreaming a lot.

Avatar image for kyelo

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> doubt it Titanfall Beta will turn into a multiplatform game next time and will most likely have a decent story. Beta will be defunct in no time.

Avatar image for tomservo51

I hope everyone enjoyed their game rental.
