Crimson Desert Gameplay Revealed, Releases In 2021

Action-RPG Crimson Desert was revealed during The Game Awards 2020 with a sizeable chunk of gameplay full of combat and more.

The Game Awards 2020 brought the announcement of action-RPG Crimson Desert, developed by South Korean developer Pearl Abyss, which is known for Black Desert Online. The gameplay footage featured impressive visuals of a fantasy world inhabited by bandits, wolves, and dragons. It releases for consoles and PC sometime in winter 2021.

Crimson Desert is a third-person action-RPG that looks similar in motion to games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The gameplay trailer started with the player character walking through various areas of the world, including medieval towns, barren deserts, and lush forests. That's followed by close-ups of conversations and characters before swords clash and we're thrust into combat. The combat looks brutal, and colliding steel causes sparks to fly. In one particularly impressive moment, we see the player riding a dragon as it shakes off enemy fire.

The story follows protagonist Macduff, who leads a band of mercenaries who seek to fight for their land and reclaim it. The characters in the trailer include various members of Macduff's gang.

Unfortunately, Pearl Abyss has not announced specific consoles, though it's safe to say Crimson Desert will come to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S--whether last-gen consoles are included remains to be seen.
