Creed III is the champion of the weekend box office taking an impressive $58.6M domestic debut and $100M worldwide. The Michael B. Jordan-directed entry is the franchise's top opening yet, beating 2015's Creed ($29.6M) and 2018's Creed II ($35.5M).

That's not all though. Creed III also is at the top of sports movies' all-time opening weekend, beating the long-time record holder, 2010's The Karate Kid remake with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan ($55.6M). Even being compared to more contemporary films like 2019's Ford v. Ferrari, Creed III earned over $20M more.

With a $100.4M global opening, Creed III is on a steady track to beat the first two movies as the first Creed's worldwide box office was $157M and Creed II's $214M.

This is the first film to be self-distributed by MGM under the ownership of Amazon, which shut down the studio's previous distributor United Artists Releasing on the day of the film's release, due to the financial failures of the studio's 2022 awards season films.

Initially slated for the previous two film's usual slot of Thanksgiving weekend, Creed III was moved to avoid going blow-to-blow with Wakanda Forever, which was the right call, and moved to March.

Creed III is in theaters now.
