Now Playing: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy - Release Date Announcement Trailer

If you're hoping to play the upcoming Crash Bandicoot trilogy remaster but don't own a PS4, you may not be completely out of luck.

To date, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has only been announced for PS4, where it launches on June 30. The PlayStation Ireland Twitter account recently replied to a tweet and stated it will be exclusive to PS4. That tweet (captured in an image on NeoGAF) has since been deleted, with a new message correcting what it originally claimed.

"To clarify our earlier post, it will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro first," the new tweet reads. It hasn't clarified this any further, but it sounds as if N. Sane Trilogy is a timed exclusive and, as such, could eventually launch on other platforms.

We've followed up with publisher Activision to confirm if this is the case. We'll report back with any details we receive.

N. Sane Trilogy is a remastered version of the first three Crash games, Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped. Those games were developed by Naughty Dog, but it's Vicarious Visions that's handling the remaster.

Crash is generally associated with the PlayStation family of systems; the three in this trilogy were published by Sony and only ever released on PS1. Later games and spinoffs in the series were also released on non-Sony platforms once publishing rights shifted to companies like Vivendi, Sierra, and Activision.

Crash hasn't forgotten Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. "You MFers will get Big Daddy and Donte but you won't get me? I'll show you"

@catsimboy: Or Cloud... Cloud went to Super Smash Bros instead.

I'm glad everyone will now be able to enjoy some of the BEST platformers ever! I'll be buying this on PS4 just to relive some of my favorite games in HD with cool new graphics. People are complaining about Activision and DLC, but we're getting all three Crash games anyway for a fair price to boot (I think around $40 US), so I couldn't care less what they decide to do with DLC. I hope that this release is successful enough to inspire more platformer re-makes/re-skins/HD overhauls. I'd love to see the classic Spyro trilogy done up like this. I miss the good old platforming era.

@gonetoyourhaed: Man a Spyro one would be awesome.

Good, then everyone can enjoy them, like they did on 360. The good ones that is.

They'll phuck it up one way or another. It's Activision we're talking about here, the kings of DLC. I'm not being a pessimist I'm being a realist and as much as I loved the original games on the PS1, some how I get the feeling their going to turn this into a disaster.

I own all 3 games on PS1 discs, and I'm still getting this because I don't want to hook up my PS1. Now all I need is Spyro, MediEvil, Battletoads, and Contra.

@drprophecy: MediEvil! That takes me back.

@drprophecy: We really need MediEvil, I love that game so much T_T

@adrdeju: Yeah, the old days so many great games. Legend of Dragoon is another game that needs to come back.

I haven't played a Crash Bandicoot game since the early 2000s. I'll buy this if it hits Steam

Oh, man! I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope they release this either on Steam or for XBox One. Crash Bandicoot brings back so many awesome childhood memories, I can't wait to play it again! Now, if only they'd remake Crash Team Racing...

I predict Switch. Much like Nintendo gobbled up Sonic.

@RicanV: Then maybe we'd get Crash in a Smash Bros game.

@Mogan: Crash would end up more in PS All Stars than Smash Bros since Activision has sided with Sony this time around, but then again not sure if there's going to be any more PS All Stars.

Activision isn't known to do exclusive games.

I don't really care what platform this is on, I just know I'll get it wherever I can. But isn't this more or less what Microsoft did with Tomb Raider a couple years back, hinting at exclusivity but then it actually wasn't? And everyone completely flipped their $h!t. I know this release isn't on the same level of visibility and hype as that Tomb Raider was, but I'll bet Sony doesn't receive the same response MS did. Just an observation...

Avatar image for stage4saiyan

@Hoogovens: I hate politics, but it's the only analogy I could think of, so here it is: the Xbox is to the right, as Playstation is to the left when it comes to media coverage. Meaning, the media and forums give Playstation a pass and cover for it constantly, and attack every little thing about the Xbox.

Seriously why make this exclusive most people will give zero fucks for it one way or the other.

I was probably going to get it on PS4 but the possibility of a Switch version is too good to pass up. I'll wait to see what happens

It's cool they're doing a remaster and all, and good news if it's coming to other platforms, but these were never great games to begin with in my opinion. I won't be picking this up.

@domiddian: I disagree, Crash Bandicoot is a great series and right next Sly Cooper.

Avatar image for domiddian
Domiddian

@taylor_sparks: Good for you, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Now Sly Cooper is a very good game, but it's more of an action/adventure than a pure platformer like Crash.

Avatar image for taylor_sparks

@domiddian: I consider them a stealth platformer.

@domiddian: Yeah I'm not a fan, these games felt janky and I did not enjoy the levels, just the 2D sidescrolling parts were somewhat fun

@domiddian: I like Crash games back on PlayStation good old days but truth be told, I like Spyro the Dragon games more so then Crash and I really do hope the purple Dragon get's the same treatment as Crash Bandicoot Trilogy remaster someday.

@davillain-: Agreed, Spyro was awesome. And I remember when it first come out how good the graphics seemed for a PS1 game.

Avatar image for deactivated-5afeea4d8be41

@davillain-: I loved Spyro too, maybe if this remaster does well it will spur others to do the same. I'd love a Tomb Raider 2 remaster.

Avatar image for kbigjohnson

@davillain-: agree I liked spyro games more but then they were more of a adventure game to me that's wy. Crash was more of a platformer. game

Crash Bandicoot, 2, & Warped were never Sony's exclusive games back on PlayStation, they always been Naughty Dogs game IP before Activision buyout the rights from Naughty Dogs. Only a hardcore Sony fanboy would think it's Sony's exclusive.

I did started with Crash Bandicoot on PlayStation decades ago and so with that, I'm still buying it on PS4 only because Crash games feels right at home on the PlayStation console.

@davillain-: Those games were developed before Sony owned Naughty Dog, but they were still published by Sony. So Crash 1-3 never showed up anywhere other than Sony platforms.

Avatar image for joshrmeyer

@davillain-: Sony has owned Naughty Dog since 2001... so it's not too hard to believe Crash was a PS exclusive. Where else can you play it? PC maybe?

Avatar image for aeroquest1

@davillain-: What platforms were Crash 2 and Warped on? Answer: only Playstation. Naughty Dog developed the first 3 games in the series, and Sony published all 3. Since they were only published for the Playstation, that means that yes, they are in fact Playstation exclusives.

Avatar image for davillain-
DaVillain-

@aeroquest1: I was namely speaking Sony themselves never really own the IP game, only Naughty Dogs did. But yes, Sony did published the games.

@davillain-: you're wrong about Naughty dog owning the IP, it was in fact Universal Interactive who owned the IP rights for Crash Bandicoot and also Spyro.

In 2000 Vivendi bought Universal going with the new name Vivendi Universal Interactive and then in 2008 Vivendi and Activision merged to form Activision Blizzard, this is how Activision obtained the rights to both IPs.

@liquidsolid: Interesting, that part I didn't know this and thanks for telling me this.
