Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series Is Dirt Cheap Right Now
Get one of the best anime of all time for just $5.
Netflix's live-action reboot of Cowboy Bebop hit a significant speed bump last fall when lead actor John Cho suffered a knee injury on set that pushed production back at least seven months. While you wait for the highly anticipated show to debut, you have plenty of time to rewatch the original anime series or see it for the first time. Apple currently has Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series discounted to just $5 on iTunes. If you'd prefer a physical version, Amazon has the series on Blu-ray for $18, which is 50% off its $36 list price.
Released in 2014 by Funimation, Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series compiles the 26-episode arc that originally aired in 1998. All of the episodes are presented in their original 4:3 aspect ratio with upscaled resolution. You can watch with English dubs or in Japanese with subtitles, and the surround-sound mix helps make the excellent soundtrack hum. The Complete Series comes with a bunch of special features, including audio commentary from some of the lead voice actors.
Set in 2071, Cowboy Bebop follows a group of bounty hunters led by protagonist Spike Spiegel who travel across space to find wanted criminals. Though a sci-fi show at its core, Cowboy Bebop is also indebted to westerns and noir films. Both funny and heartfelt, Cowboy Bebop shines because of its rich characters who are often trying to outrun their pasts. It's widely regarded as one of the best anime ever made.
