Cool New Fortnite Skin Out Now Alongside New Patch

The first content update of Season 5 arrives on July 17.

Season 5 of Fortnite may have only just begun, but a new batch of content is on the way for the popular battle royale game. Developer Epic has announced that the game's 5.0 content update is slated to drop very soon, arriving on all platforms--PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and iOS--on Tuesday, July 17. [Update: This skin is no longer available as it has been rotated out of the store; however, the 5.0 content update is out now.]

Epic hasn't shared many details about the 5.0 content update, so it remains to be seen what new items and other changes it will bring to Fortnite: Battle Royale--the only thing we know of is a new Submachine Gun weapon, as teased in-game. The developer did also confirm that it will be rolling out early in the day, going live for all players at 5 AM PT / 8 AM ET / 1 PM BST, so it won't be much longer until we find out what Epic has in store this week.

In the meantime, Epic has added a cool new viking-themed skin and harvesting tool to Fortnite: Battle Royale, both of which are available to purchase right now. The Magnus outfit is a Legendary skin that dresses your avatar like a viking, and it runs for 2,000 V-Bucks. Alongside it is the Forebearer, a harvesting tool that resembles a viking axe. It can be purchased for 800 V-Bucks. You can see screenshots of both items below.

This marks the first content update of Season 5, which kicked off last week alongside Fortnite's big v5 update. That patch introduced a number of new elements to the popular battle royale game, including another vehicle: the All Terrain Kart. Most notably, the v5 update made some significant changes to Fortnite's map, replacing Moisty Mire with a new desert biome and introducing a viking ship and more new locations around the island.

In addition to the aforementioned changes, Epic has adjusted how the Battle Pass works in Season 5. As before, the developer releases a new set of challenges for players to complete each week during the season. This time around, however, the challenges are divided into two categories, Free and Battle Pass, giving even those who have not yet purchased the Pass some objectives to complete and rewards to earn.

The next set of weekly challenges is slated to arrive on Thursday, July 19. In the meantime, players can complete the Week 1 challenges for Season 5, which include collecting floating Lightning Bolts and following a Risky Reels treasure map.
