'Comprehensive' Fallout: New Vegas patch coming soon

Bethesda currently running final testing for wide-ranging fix for game's bugs and issues; fix coming to PS3, Xbox 360, and PC in the "coming weeks."

No Caption Provided Fallout: New Vegas, the follow-up to the widely adored Fallout 3, has been on shelves for three weeks now. In that time, it has garnered positive reviews but has been plagued by numerous bugs and issues. Now, the game's publisher is assuring gamers that a "comprehensive" patch is coming to all systems in the near future.

According to a post on the Bethesda blog, the publisher has "come up with solutions" for not only the Xbox 360 save issue that's being widely reported, but also a number of other issues. The publisher also said it’s currently running final testing and certification for the upcoming fix, which is set to arrive on all systems in the coming weeks.

New Vegas is about to get patched up.
New Vegas is about to get patched up.

PC gamers are enjoying the most rapid remedies, as Bethesda released a patch for that system in October that resolved quest and scripting issues. The PC edition of Fallout: New Vegas will also receive an update that fixes save corruption and companion issues this week. In addition, that update will "improve performance" for Nvidia users and remedy reported Havok issues.

Developed by many veterans of the original Fallout games at Obsidian Entertainment (Alpha Protocol), New Vegas is set in the Mojave wasteland and casts players in the role of a courier who is shot in the head and left for dead. After recovering, players roam the desert and the titular metropolis, exploring new areas and modifying weapons. They also get wrapped up in the larger conflict among the bureaucratic New California Republic, the slave-trading Caesar's Legion, and a mysterious New Vegas impresario named Mr. House.

I haven't had any glitches with my game. Unless the game being crappy and generally boring is a glitch.

Sad. I enjoyed the game immensely until the crashes started getting worse and worse! I wanted to believe they'd resolve FO3. How naive I am :(

When will it be fixed? Never. Bethesda is simply incapable of such a [simple] feat. They release their games without any form of proper testing. Then leave it to the gamers to find bugs/glitches, only for Bethesda to fix a couple minor bugs.

Seeing as how I haven't had any glitches or errors despite the hundreds of people complaining about them, I'm going to have to say that you are the one that did something wrong. Ever stop to think that maybe all the people that are facing the glitches are the minority? Of course you haven't, since you're allergic to thinking. There are more people out there that aren't facing the glitches that don't spend all their time talking about the game on the internet than there are underaged whiners complaining about problems they're responsible for.

You know what I hate? Whenever there is painful, damn-well global glitch affecting most people's games/systems/computers/etc, the few lucky people that haven't experienced the glitch (yet) says some truly stupid things like "Oh, I haven't experienced the glitch, you guys must be doing something wrong". Yes, because every other player out there is playing frisbee with their disk. You are the ONLY ONE who takes care of their systems. Those major reviewers and the millions of people experiencing this glitch can't take care of their #$%@. Maybe, moron, you're just lucky, and didn't experience the glitch yet. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, you just haven't run into it. Don't make it seem as if it's the player's fault, since you, and you alone, can care fo your crap.

Have not experienced one freeze issue or save issue at all. If someone can't play for more than 30 minutes without it freezing... i'm wondering what's wrong with their 360? Enjoying the hell out of New Vegas.

Look at my gamespot name; fallout reference. Now understand that I stopped playing this game entirely and will not ever buy a game from these companies again. It is unforgivable that they released the game in this condition. I'm not interested in the subtleties of whether it's the publisher's fault for forcing the release. I don't care. Do not buy this game.

Although I havn't encountered too many glitches the ones I have encountered are save-ruining. I just deleted all my saves and will start playing it again sometime after the patch is released.

I literally cannot play this game for 30 minutes without it freezing. Talk about taking the fun out of the game. This is inexcusable and shows a total disregard for the game's customers.

What do you expect after Fallout 3 never got fixed? That's why I didn't pre-order, and still haven't got new vegas yet. If nobody bought the game until they knew it wouldn't be the same issues, they would probably fix it faster to boost sales. Hopefully they'll realize the should make a game playable before releasing 4 DLC. Most companies at least try to fix problems before a game is released, I would rather see a game get delayed before putting up with all the glicthes I saw in FO3.

It's been a MONTH, give us the patch guys, what the hell is wrong with you all? Tonight I was beat to death by invisible Nightkin, locked up and crashed upon fast travel, save I made just didn't exist upon reload and that was when I about took the disc out and broke it in half. You all can read about it in my blog if you like ranting angry diatribes :D

Well... we're hitting the whole gamut of problems with this game tonight. We seem to have permanently lost Ed-E although the game still thinks he's with us... and now the game has frozen (complete system lock on PS3) for the second time tonight. May just quit playing this till they release this upcoming fix.

All games are buggy in some way, but it's the ease of encountering those bugs that make the difference. In New Vegas you don't even have to try to crash your game. I knew we were on a slippery slope when you started hearing about developers using patches to fix bugs. Now publishers won't even let developers fix their games until after release. Welcome to the slope, kiddies! Enjoy the ride.

NV does have more bugs than other games but I think that people are putting an unfair emphasis on it. There are plenty of games that are really buggy but reviewers completely ignore their problems. Call of Duty: Black Ops has plenty of bugs but no one even mentions them. This goes all the way back to Neverwinter Nights, which was incredibly buggy and had a huge bug where 2da files didn't get loaded in the right order that wasn't fixed until the first expansion came out. Bugs are an industry wide problem and a lot of people are just using NV as a scapegoat because of Obsidian's reputation.

@Ninja_Zombie83 what other broken games have bethesda released? You're talking like your computer went on fire and burnt your house down after installing new vegas... edit: ever since X3 Reunion I've waited for a few months before buying games after their release. Sometimes the game developers are rushed to release the game by the publisher. It's not right, but if you wait awhile after a games release then the better chance you'll have to play the fixed version.

I'm done with Bethesda after this. I don't care what game they make in the future. As a devoted Fallout 3 and Oblivion fan I've simply had enough of playing broken games and I'm tired of waiting for fixes that never come or don't fix issues that shouldn't be there in the first place.

Still waiting for a patch that will fix all the broken quests issues (try going the NCR path and bring a box of tissues) - even the latest patch hasn't addressed that yet - and gamers are flocking to other games now...

Performance fix for Nvidia users eh? What about ATI or anyone else users? I hate how Nvidia has all the damn developers in their pockets. The performance issues effect pretty much anyone with newer DX 10/11 cards. An fans have come up with their own ghetto fixes the first week. We know exactly the cause yet 3 weeks later they can only fix it for Nvidia users? What a bunch of horse ****.

I honestly don't understand what the big problem is. I've had the game for a while now for the PS3, and after putting in about 15+ hours of gameplay (would be longer, but school and all that), I've had no real issues with the game compared to Fallout 3. I mean, sure I have encountered slowdowns from time to time, but nothing serious when compared to F3. That game froze on me so many times that I almost gave up on it! Who knows? Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones...

Bugs happen, that's an inevitability of making software. No one, no one has a QA/UA process so comprehensive that it can detect all issues. Not defending or taking sides, just saying. I'm fortunate, in that playing the PC version I have had only a few random crashes in 50+ hours of gameplay. It sucks that the console version is plagued by cripplers.

I'm glad they are releasing a huge patch for the game. Hopefully it will solve and correct a majority of the issues found throughout the experience. I'm also hoping the patch fixes the loading times. After playing for about 2 hours I find myself exiting the game to the dashboard, going to the hard drive and clearing the system cache just so the loading times arent outrageous. I've waited for almost 2 minutes one time while the game was loading from one area to the other. Bethesda and Obsidian, do the right thing and fix the game. That's all im going to say.

I disagree with the notion that bugs are acceptable. To me all that it means is that the publisher rushed a game and was too cheap to hire good QC people. I understand that large games can be buggy and a little bug here and there is fine, but when a patch is sometimes released even before the game comes out or even worse, the game cannot be run without one is wrong. There is no excuse for the amount of problems Fallout New Vegas has. I love the game and I’m on my third playthrough, why should I be punished with crappy bugs and load times that are worse then the Sega CD after playing for a long while? The big problem that I see is that this is becoming more and more common place. Publishers don't care if a game is buggy, they just want to get it out and fix it later. I can see into the future that some companies might even try to make you pay for the patches.

@starduke Yes lots of companies have been released unfinished games and it is a sad trend. Because while they are patching it there is a good percentage of people that don't have online access for their consoles so they are stuck with the buggy game. Though part of my point is that if there was one game I would be most forgiving to it would be Fallout due to the sheer size of the game, but that doesn't excuse it none the less.

It's not much buggier than Fallout 3 was when it was released. Personally(All bugs aside) I find New Vegas to be quite superior to Fallout 3 as it offers a more nostalgic Fallout experience in my humble opinion. I think it's biggest problem is that the engine feels outdated now but I don't blame Obsidian for that.

I actually consider it a Fallout tradition that the game has bugs. Fallout is such a brilliant game that took a lot of effort to create, every single game in the franchise. (maybe not the one released on the PS2...) So of course with that much effort, you barely notice that there are bugs. But to me, there has to be bugs in the game. It wouldn't be Fallout without bugs. Some of the bugs are just funny. :D

@Toysoldier34 Yes, I get where you're coming from. However, they could have waited a month or two more, and spent that time just testing the game, even if they already did testing. There's really no excuse for a game to come out that is that full of bugs. And it's not just Bethesda, a lot of company's seem to be releasing un-polished games.

I understand that less shelf time = less money, but you'd think that releasing a game in such a buggy state would overall be a net loss in money with all the negative rep that comes with that. And while the patch will probably just be pre-installed on future versions of the game, there are still people who bought the game on launch day and do not have internet access on their 360, and those people are looking at a pretty different gaming experience than others, which is sad. And for the record I had roughly 35 hours put into the game before the first minor patch came out, and around 90 overall, on 360. I had probably 15 game freezes that required a complete 360 shutdown and reboot, and then the various bugs/glitches.

I honestly would of been happy not seeing this game release this year if it meant the game would come out fully tested and working at full power.Rather than the half ass product we received.Honestly they had plenty of time to polish it as they did announce a while ago it was done before it was released.A few months before it releases if im not mistaken.Either way this should of been delayed and polished for at least another two months to 4 months.
