Colin Kaepernick Is Coming Back To Madden With Signature Black Power Celebration
EA Sports is bringing back the former 49ers quarterback.
Madden 21 is finally bringing back Colin Kaepernick after years of not being included in the NFL simulation. The former 49ers quarterback hasn't been part of the game since 2016.
"Colin Kaepernick is one of the top free agents in football and a starting-caliber quarterback," read a tweet from the official Madden account. "The team at EA sports, along with millions of Madden NFL fans want to see him back in our game. We've had a long relationship with Colin through Madden NFL and worked through our past soundtrack mistakes."
Kaepernick's character wasn't the only thing that's been removed from Madden. His name was edited out of two songs, "Bars Of Soap" by Mike WiLL Made-It and "Big Bank" by YG, within the game in 2018. EA Sports said the removal of his name from the songs was a mistake.
Kapernick was a superstar within the NFL during his prime. He played in multiple NFC championships with the San Francisco 49ers and lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl in 2013. He became the point of widespread controversy after taking a knee during the national anthem in 2016 to raise awareness of police brutality and racial inequality in America. He's not currently signed by an NFL team although he hopes to continue his playing career.
His current Madden 21 rating of 81 is better than New England Patriot's starting quarterback Cam Newton, which is something Newton will probably be upset about.
Madden 21 added a series of new player-specific celebrations, and Kaepernick's is the raised fist as a symbol of Black Power that he used during his last season in the NFL. Here's how it looks in the game:
Players can use Kaepernick as a QB for any team in Madden 21's Play Now mode. Additionally, players can sign him to their team in Franchise mode.
What's more, the Nike Kaepernick Icon Jersey 2.0 is available for free inside Madden 21's new and exciting mode, The Yard.
