Codemasters announced its second game to hit North American retailers today as Heroes of World War II heads to stores. Codemasters plans to release the PC game in Europe and Australia on July 2.

Heroes mixes action and real-time strategy as players control small WWII units from the American, Soviet, German, and British forces. There will be no resource gathering or base building; rather, players will have to scavenge for weapons and vehicles across more than 30 missions. Players either control their units in the conventional RTS manner or directly select a unit and control it as in an action game.

As part of its plan to protect against game piracy, Codemasters previously announced that it will be releasing regular content updates that will work only with original copies of the game. The first of these free downloads is planned to include the multiplayer portion of the game.

Heroes of World War II was developed by Ukrainian studio Best Way. It's rated "T" for Teen and will be available for $39.99.
