Codemasters has announced that it's currently working on Pro Race Driver, a new game in the TOCA driving series. The game will feature real cars, real tracks, real drivers, and an accurate damage model, but interestingly, it has a fictional cast to help develop an episodic storyline. Players will take on the role of a driver named Ryan McKane, a character who starts out as a test driver but eventually matures into one of the world's best drivers. "The character element to the game is a real way for the player to connect with the racing experience," said Michael Hayes, marketing director at Codemasters. "It doesn't take over the game, it enhances the atmosphere, building tension and settings for each race."

Pro Race Driver is scheduled for release in 2002.
