Summer's here, which means it's time to eschew the sunshine and stay indoors and get in some gaming. GameSpot has announced that its latest Call of Duty 2 tournament, Summer Assault, will begin on June 27. Those who think they're war-hardened enough for the competition can begin enlisting today at the tournament's home page.

Sixteen three-player teams will duke it out over Xbox Live, and the finals will be broadcast on GameSpot Tournament TV with commentary from GameSpot editors and special guests.

The format will be single-elimination team deathmatch with $2,000 in total prizes up for grabs. The first-place team will receive three $450 Best Buy gift cards, second place will receive three $215 Best Buy gift cards, and third place will receive a one-month extension to each team member's GameSpot Total Access account.

First-round qualifying matches begin on June 27, with matches each day through the finals, which will take place on June 30. The tournament is free and open to all GameSpot Total Access subscribers age 13 or older living in the US or Canada. For more information on the event, head over to the Summer Assault promo page.
