CoD: Modern Warfare / Warzone Patch Notes Preview And File Size Announced

Infinity Ward announces the file size for the upcoming update and reveals what's in it.

Infinity Ward recently shared details on the April 28 update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone, including the preliminary patch notes and the file size. The patch is due out sometime today, and we're expecting full patch notes then, but here's an overview of what to expect. [Update: The update is out now; check out the full patch notes and be prepared for a second download on consoles following the first, as described below.]

In a blog post, Infinity Ward clarified that the update is about 15 GB in size, and it will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The update delivers the Data Pack 1, and it must be downloaded to keep playing the game--here's how the two-part download works. This appears to be a console-only update.

In addition to the Data Pack, the April 28 update will include a series of bug fixes and changes (across console and PC). One of the big ones is that the speed and size of the Warzone gas circle has been "adjusted," but Infinity Ward did not provide any further details.

In terms of bug fixes, the April 28 update takes care of an issue that could cause players to lose the ability to select a favorite faction from the Operator menu. It also fixes a bug that could cause watches to appear in the wrong direction when using a gesture. There are also a variety of fixes for problems related to challenges and weapon unlocks, among other things.

The full patch notes will be released later, but for now, you can check out a preview below.

April 28 Modern Warfare Patch Notes Preview:

  • Fix for a bug where PC players using a Vega64 GPU could see corrupted outlines around their character models and weapons.
  • Fix for a bug where selecting the USEF 1 skin for the Mil-Sim Operator appears as the default skin in Co-op
  • Adjusted the speed and sizing of the circle in Warzone
  • Fix for a bug where completing the completionist challenges for the SKS are unlocking the associated camos for the Renetti
  • Fix for a bug where unlocking camos for the SKS was inconsistent with other camo challenges for marksman rifles
  • Fixed a bug where the “Hard Wired” skin for Alex would appear in thermals while Cold Blooded is equipped
  • Fixed a bug where some watches were appearing the wrong direction when gesturing
  • Fixed a bug where players could lose the option to pick their favorite Faction in the Operator menu
  • Fixed a bug where white lighting could be seen while moving or firing a weapon near specific locations

I gave up on this game after the Warzone update. I didn't want nor plan to play warzone so for them to require it ticked me off. On PS4 apps now seem to ignore your auto update settings so MW tried to autoupdate and from that point you're stuck with it. If you uninstall you still have to do that first patch which now includes Warzone. If that's not bad enough its broken on mine keeps asking for DLC pack that I don't have or can't find so the game won't play. But just sick of this stuff. Warzone should be it's own standalone and this intrusive forcing on people .....well I've just had enough.

Also it would be nice if gamesites would actually report on game issues and stuff like this bait and switch that has been pulled with Warzone. I don't care for online playing nor free to play. It wasn't required when I purchased the game but now it is......complete BS

My guess for the hefty update sizes is the way they've packed and distributed the game's assets. They each come in ~1 GB chunks and I'm willing to bet some of these fixes are on some of the assets themselves. Since these chunks are split out evenly, I'm guessing there isn't much organization to them, so many of them have to be replaced entirely, or potentially recompiled into a new set and indexed so the game knows how to find them.

Updates would be much easier and smaller if the game's assets weren't split up like a giant ZIP file with hundreds of parts.

So Call of Duty 2020 is going to eat up a quarter of my Series X internal storage by the middle of next year? Wow. No thanks. I'll play smaller games, I remember when MW3 felt hefty at 16gb on Xbox One. Maybe I'll go play that.

They need to add attachments to guns. Like Blackout. Get rid of the pre-set guns.

15 more gigs? Damn man. The game is already taking up 168 gigs on my Xbox One. The size of these updates is ridiculous.

15gigs is a lot for the changes listed. No maps, or anything that would have the patch so large?
