CoD: Modern Warfare Doesn't Fit On A Single 250GB SSD Anymore

As the game continues to grow, Modern Warfare in its entirety won't fit on the drive size you may use for your entire operating system.

Since launch, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been the most notable example of the ballooning sizes of games. Even at launch, its massive 175GB recommended installation size was surprising, but it's since grown beyond the capabilities of an entire OS SSD. If you're on PC, it's possible you don't have enough space to play the game anymore.

Right now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare cannot fit on a single 250GB SSD, which prevents you from updating the game if you've somehow decided to dedicate an entire SSD to just one game. The increase in size has been steady over the months as both Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone grow, but it finally reached this tipping point with its latest update. Twitter user BattleNonSense shared the situation on the platform.

On PC there is no way to choose what parts of Modern Warfare you want to install, meaning you'll have to find space for the single-player campaign, co-op Spec Ops missions, multiplayer, and the free-to-play Warzone mode even if you're only playing one component. That isn't the case on consoles (Modern Warfare and Warzone can be downloaded independently) and even past Call of Duty releases on Steam separated single and multiplayer content. On next-gen, you'll be able to decide which parts of a game you want to have installed, as well. With next-gen storage getting expensive, this could be a concerning development--the PS5, for instance, could not fit three games of this size on its SSD.

Choosing which parts of the game to install isn't possible on Battle.Net yet, so you'll have to put up with needing a quarter of a terabyte to just play your evening games of Modern Warfare multiplayer for the foreseeable future. There's no official word yet on how large the install size for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be, but that game also features a connection to Warzone, so it could prove to be quite big as well.

i remember the days when games were complete and finished at launch, but for many years its been about updates and patches and the patch after that and the patch after that, technically we're still waiting for the ps4 and the xbox one to peak. If everyone quit supporting junk just for the dopamine and actually took a step back, watch how quick the industry would deliver something fair and reasonable, same for everything really. Maybe next gen....or the gen after that.

lets not forget the back flip on DRM which they pleaded was impossible, even unbundling the kinect was impossible, but the people spoke, how about we try again and politely say "no thank you"

If your PC has more than one drive, you could always use a spanning volume to gain more space for the drive that has the game. Though 250Gb for one game is ridiculous.

If more games are going this route, then the developers really should be looking at adding options for which portions of the game is or is not needed. Ie. Single Player/Multiplayer portions, 2k/4k textures, etc.

Pure example of incompetent devs that don't gives a F about their playerbase. how can anyone treat a game seriously when the developers don't even know how to organize and index the files of their POS product ? 250GB for this crap experience !?Utilizing the same space om my SSD/HDD i can install 5 or 6 actually GOOD games on my PC. this is beyond ridiculous.

While it is unfortunate for both players and Activision - and also the reason why i no longer have it installed - maybe you should consider not sounding like such a little entitled basement dweller while expressing how offended you are. "doesnt care about the player base" lol thats all they care about, since there will be no money without it.

I'm sooo glad I stopped playing cod a long time ago.

Once upon a time I first got into cod when world out war came out. Dug the zombie mode a lil but it was so bare bones compared with other survival modes at the time like reach/odst fire fight or gears 2 horde mode.

Then I got modern warfare 2 because my friends were into it. Then I realized it's just the same game with different modes and skins with modern weapons vs ww2 weapons. Game play wise and visually though it was super duper samey. Fast forward to today and nothing really has changed except there is more wallet ra**. Same trash/different year.

Oh well. I'll stick to the doom franchise or something. Shooters these days are not really doing it for me. I think they have ultimately passed their prime. Just my opinion. No big deal though. Plenty of older better and more ground breaking/interesting shooters from the past that are always fun to go back to.

@goldenageplayer: Last COD i personally enjoyed was MW3.

i played Black Ops1 & Ghost(same era iirc) but i disliked both..

I don't agree with you about DOOM but i do miss quality for sure.
