Cobie Smulders' MCU character Maria Hill was last seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019. Smulders will once again reprise her role as Hill for the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion, Deadline reports.

Maria Hill has been an integral part of Nick Fury's espionage machine both during and after the days of S.H.I.E.L.D., appearing in the Avengers films, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and most recently Spider-Man: Far From Home and Marvel's What If...? Technically, though, that wasn't Maria herself in Far From Home. Instead, that was the Skrull Soren, who first appeared in Captain Marvel, portrayed in both by Sharon Blynn. Soren and Talos were impersonating Hill and Fury, seemingly as a way to protect them against Mysterio's subterfuge, but it could tie into Secret Invasion now that the Flerken is out of the bag.

Now Playing: Spider-Man: Far From Home Post-Credits Scenes Explained! (SPOILERS)

Now, Smulders reunites with Samuel L. Jackson and joins other Secret Invasion cast members Ben Mendelsohn (Talos in Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home), Olivia Colman, Emilia Clark, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Christopher McDonald, and Killian Scott. While Smulders, Jackson, and Mendelsohn are stepping back into their roles, the other announced cast members' roles are yet unknown.

Similarly, Marvel is keeping details about the plot of Secret Invasion under close wraps. This storyline was a huge one in the comics, and depicted the Skrulls infiltrating earth by replacing heroes and high-level members of governments. In the MCU, though, the Skrulls have often been depicted as oppressed by the Kree (Captain Marvel), and in active alliance with Earth (Spider-Man: Far From Home). While there's always the potential for a surprise reveal or betrayal in the future--maybe Fury is actually a Skrull captive, who can say--nothing we've seen so far would hint at an upcoming heel turn.

Secret Invasion is currently set to hit Disney+ sometime in 2022.
