Classic Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow 3DS Re-Releases Break eShop Records
Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow combine to topple a record held by Super Smash Bros. 3DS.
Classic 2D Pokemon games Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow were released for 3DS through the eShop on February 27 (the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon series) and they were a big hit. Nintendo announced today that, when sales from all three are combined, they set a new first-week eShop sales record.

This record was previously held by Super Smash Bros.
"With classic graphics and timeless gameplay, these versions of the original Pokemon adventure are proving to be a popular way for fans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series," Nintendo said in a statement to GameSpot.
Nintendo did not share any specific numbers, and, as mentioned earlier, the Pokemon game sales combined all three. Still, it's an impressive feat and speaks to the enduring appeal of Pokemon.
The next Pokemon game is this month's Wii U fighting game Pokken Tournament. Looking further out, new mainline entries Pokemon Sun/Moon will launch this holiday for 3DS.
Nintendo also announced today that both versions of Fire Emblem Fates sold nearly 400,000 copies combined, outpacing the previous series' record-holder, Fire Emblem: Awakening. That number should continue to rise with Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation, which releases today.
